Republican Readies Primary Challenge to Boehner Ally
Roll Call ^ | 8-23-2013 | Abby Livingston

Posted on 08/25/2013 4:41:13 AM PDT by ClaytonP

Attorney Bryan Smith earned the Club for Growth’s first major endorsement of the 2014 cycle, but he said he made the decision to challenge one of Speaker John A. Boehner’s top allies in Congress independently of the cash-flush, conservative group.

.......

Smith is challenging eight-term Republican Rep. Mike Simpson for Idaho’s 2nd District. He got the Club for Growth’s attention after the group launched a campaign against several Republican incumbents, including Simpson, called “Primary My Congressman.”

.......

So if Smith makes it to Congress, would he back Boehner in a leadership race?

“We’re talking about an event that would take place in 2015,” he said. “I can tell you that I would put my support behind somebody who was the most conservative person that would represent the conservative values of the good people of Idaho’s 2nd congressional district.”

Well there is a weasel statement if I ever heard one.

sounds like in his mind there is a 50-50 chance of him possibly voting for Boehner. This guy is just another RINO. Do not vote for this crap again.

This guy is a blithering idiot.

The whole point of such a primary challenge would be to knock off Boehner, which many conservative voters want to do.

By refusing to unequivocally oppose Boehner's leadership he defeats the entire purpose of his primary challenge. The people in the district may as well keep the old RINO and his seniority in the house rather than electing a new RINO who will be at the bottom of the power structure.

Rand Paul’s immigration speech

...The Republican Party must embrace more legal immigration.

Unfortunately, like many of the major debates in Washington, immigration has become a stalemate-where both sides are imprisoned by their own rhetoric or attachment to sacred cows that prevent the possibility of a balanced solution.

Immigration Reform will not occur until Conservative Republicans, like myself, become part of the solution. I am here today to begin that conversation.

Let’s start that conversation by acknowledging we aren’t going to deport 12 million illegal immigrants.

If you wish to work, if you wish to live and work in America, then we will find a place for you...

This is where prudence, compassion and thrift all point us toward the same goal: bringing these workers out of the shadows and into being taxpaying members of society.

Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers.12 million more people assimilating into society. 12 million more people being productive contributors.

[but he’s not against amnesty, snicker, definition of is is ping]

It’s easy to say it from here - meaning, to be critical. But remember what this guy in this primary needs more than anything right now: the local GOP party apparatus in case he wins the primary. There are times and places to speak your views. I’m only saying what MIGHT be in his head as of today. He needs the local GOP now more than they need him. So if the local GOP apparatus likes Boehner (which is probably why their current rep is one of the Boehner darlings), he’s smart not to start any wars until he can wage them on his terms.

And let’s not forget what Boehner faced when the election for Speaker played out in early 2013 after the 2012 election. There were rumors all month leading to it that enough House Republicans were going to band together and derail his bid for Speaker. It almost worked. During the first roll call of votes a LOT of members passed, and Boehner stood at 216, two fewer than he needed. Wanna know two of the three who secured the Speaker’s position? Michele Bachmann and Marcia Blackburn, who passed on the first round. They SAVED Boehner. The point is, there’s much going on we do not know about that apparently wins the day. If open critics of the feckless House Leadership such as Bachmann and Blackburn decide Boehner is to stay on, then one of two things is true: either they do not mean what they say and are frauds; or they are looking at some alternative to Boehner that we don’t know about that would end up being worse, so they side with the Devil They Know instead of a possible Devil They Don’t Know. For a guy in a primary taking on a very powerful Leader’s ally, it’s uphill all the way. It’s Boehner who has control over the $$$ for House races coming from the House funding committees. This is what Bachmann faced - zero money from the House. yet, she saved his Speakership. THAT’S how powerful the House Speaker is. So if you take aim at the king, you better make sure you do it when it’s on YOUR terms. This guy in this primary might just be keeping his powder dry. For now.
