Freedom and popular government in Britain and America became possible because over the course of many years the English House of Commons, and later the American colonial legislatures, were willing to exert the power of the purse to discipline an overreaching executive.
In Britain, the House of CommonsParliaments lower chambersometimes defunded the executive in order to curb it. The House was willing do this despite threats from the Crown and bad press from the English establishment. In America, the colonial assemblies were willing to defund the kings governors to check their power.
Freedom likely would have been impossible without the constancy of the peoples houses, led by great parliamentary leaders like Edward Coke in England and Patrick Henry in America.
The U.S. House of Representatives is the direct descendant of the House of Commons and of the colonial assemblies. Like them, it enjoys power to defund government programs. Yes, the Senate has to approve financial bills. But those bills have to originate in the House, and nothing forces the House to send to the Senate a money bill for a program the House doesnt want.
Todays headline says that although the Republicans control the House of Representatives, there still are not enough votes to defund Obamacare.
*snip*
If these pusillanimous politicos were in charge during critical moments in the 17th and 18th centuries, no doubt America would never have been free, and wed all be slaves of the British Crown today.

It will end in civil war. I am not sure exactly how or when,or even who will win, but when the communists start taking the retirement funds and bank accounts, (and they WILL)things will ramp up a bit. Trying to deal with this country’s problems peaceably now is akin to asking Jesse James to please stop robbing banks at the height of his career...
At that point, the Democrat Party becomes responsible for any decision to shut down the Federal Government. That is what happens next.
Let's put the left on the defensive -- for once.
STAND UP TO PEE, you WEASELS!!!!
WHO CARES???? If they CAVE because of what the Senate is going to do, then they ARE USELESS to Governing the US! They are an EQUAL...EQUAL BRANCH.

If this passes tomorrow, it maybe earth shattering IMHO....
to post 2.
not exactly.
PPACA ‘Obamacare’, the funding is authorized thru
FY 2019.
not my decision, btw.
Just a hunch.
Perfectly said. Well done.
What? Insider trading based on non-public knowledge?! Why, I’m shocked to hear such innuendo and conjecture....Why, I’m sure Dumbo himself has virtuously made his um-teenth $M from the same cattle futures Hillary used /s
Okay, given that would be the result, we're going to have those riots anyway when the Great Teat goes dry. I'd just as soon get it over with before they buy up even more ammo with my tax money and it disappears from warehouses.
7.62X39? The US Government is buying up ammo for east-bloc rifles? Who for? Not your local sheriff!
To try to reverse it would be, ooooohh, regressive, and that's a terrible thing to the Left.
This.
I worked briefly for a big-box store (not WalMart) and I could tell that they did not want to pay for any healthcare for the common worker. The plans were priced well beyond their ability to pay for it and still have anything left in their paycheck.
It seems to me that the big-box stores make sure to pay their workers low enough salaries so they qualify for food stamps and medicare (medicaid?). Offloading all of their employees healthcare costs onto the government means a fatter profit margin for them (and for the government, more revenue in taxes on that profit).
A win-win for both large corporations and the feral government. The only loser: us.
