Republican Party in Maine looses 13 key members

In a letter dated August 18, 2013, 13 members of the Maine Republican Party have resigned and/or unenrolled from their political party.

The letter outlines many grievances.

“Therefore, for the above-stated reasons, we can no longer allow ourselves to be called nor enrolled as Republicans; we can no longer associate ourselves with a political party that goes out of its way to continually restrict our freedoms and liberties as well as reaching deeper and deeper into our wallets.”

Full text of letter:

August 18, 2013

To Maine State GOP Secretary Chuck Mahaleris:

There are times in your life when you must choose between two paths.

The first path, if taken, would require us to remain within the Republican Party despite the fact that we know without a doubt that Republican ideas of more freedom and less taxes — while sounding good and repeated by any and all candidates – are in fact, worth no more than the paper that they are written on.

The second path leads to a principled preservation of our individual integrity, helping out our fellow citizens at the local level, and doing our level best for our Creator, our families, and our friends.

We have therefore chosen to follow the path of the latter.

Back around 2009, one county GOP group moderator banned negative comments about Collins and Snowe because the members had lots of negative comments about Collins and Snowe.

"...looses 13 key members"

Really? This is what passes for journalism and editor's acceptance these days? Where were they "loosed" to, and why were they tied up to begin with?

Stopped reading right there. Not your fault, lowbridge, just not interested in finding out why Big Rachel J thinks she should be writing about anything.

Lay it at the feet of the buzzard behind it, John Boehner.

You can snark all you want, but that won't stop the flood of people leaving the liberal GOP.

I left the GOP years ago. In summary, I vote like this:

I will NEVER vote for a Democrat or a Libertarian. I vote for those who among other things are at least pro-life, pro gun rights and fiscally conservative.

There are not many people who get on the ballot that satisfy all of my requirements.

I stopped going straight GOP on the ballot when I saw how badly they used the new Republicans elected on the 1994 ballot. They rode into power on their coattails and did....... virtually nothing to set big government back, and continue down that path.

This article, although not written well, does actually show that the thirteen citizens had guts. They may be late in getting to the truth, but they did.

“Is there still a Republican Party?”

I dunno. We still hear some whining from under their desks from time to time, but it could be the dog.

Yes, they rejected the GOP for being too liberal.

“So they quit. As soon as they were frustrated in part, they would have copped a resentment and run off.”

Naaah. Sounds to me like they got a bad case of “the ethics” and decided to take a hike. Smart move. It’s not like being on a state committee is particularly rewarding: lots of work for no recognition and increasingly the scorn of your friends and neighbors.

Not to worry. I’m sure the gop faction of the uniparty in Maine will find more reliable quislings to take their place.

snark? me?

I never take direction from the Ron-Paulistas ... and that is who these Mainers are.

It is silly cuz there is an open House seat in northern Maine which is where they are from. Several conservatives running who have a chance. Perfect timing.

BREAKING NEWS: 13 PAULISTAS go 3rd party in northern Maine.
And Gov LePage has gone native!

Whoop-adee ... doo-dah!

Well in the end, that is the quandary we are in isn't it?

Who else are you going to vote for that actually has a chance of beating the Democrat other than the Republican?

And don’t get me started on the idiots who couldn’t get the different between “Your” and “you’re”...

Don't you think you're being a little to harsh?

Bruce Poliquin has jumped into the CD-2 race.

What did LePage do?

Johnny, Johnny, Johnny...ssshhhh. Don’t spook him!

True believers in the vichy gop used to roam FR in huge numbers, talking about how the republicans were so much better than the ‘rats and how karl rove was a “magnificent bastard.” But they’re about as rare as hen’s teeth these days. They seem to be going the way of passenger pigeons. After the elections, the paid bloggers go away and we don’t have anyone left.

I’m just sayin.’ Savor em while we still have em.

Won't be long, and you'll have to go to a history book to find out what a GOP was.

I get so much mail from the RNC. They’re getting antsy because I won’t reply to anything they send. Now I have another stupid questionaire. The most ridiculous questions again

If they don’t know by now what conservatives want, they’re in the wrong job.
And HELL NO I won’t donate to you asshats.

“Won’t be long, and you’ll have to go to a history book to find out what a GOP was.”

Not that it’ll improve our lives, but there will be some thin consolation in watching them go defunct.

Isn’t it a pity that we don’t have an established alternative party for them to flee toward, such as the Constitution Keepers party or the Palin Party?
