An ex-con opened fire on a train in New Jersey and wounded two passengers - and then himself - after becoming enraged when a stranger objected to him falling asleep on her shoulder, police said today.

Tari Turpin, 34, pulled out a 9mm Glock semi-automatic pistol and started shooting aboard a PATH Train in Jersey City, New Jersey, on Sunday morning.

“lets play a game and count all the laws broken before the shooting”

From the article:

‘Turpin, of East Orange, New Jersey, was hit with a litany of charges: Two counts of aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, making terrorist threats, risking widespread injury or damage, possession of hollow point bullets, being a convict in possession of a weapon and resisting arrest.’

As someone who regularly rides the PATH can say certain parts are a zoo

Have pan handlers roam the trains harassing people for money

Last year was going to NYC with girlfriend for Christmas -
had this crack head roaming the train screaming needed money for drugs

Took out my pocket knife and started cleaning fingernails

Took one look at me (6’ 5’ 225 lbs) with this wicked looking knife and disappeared....

Did not see him again.........

Let's see, possession of a weapon aboard the train, brandishing a weapon, making terrorist threats, failure to hand over all your money to Holder's People, various violations of the ADA act (failure to give money to a disabled drug addict, failure to provide drugs to a disabled drug addict, failure to give up your woman to a disabled drug addict..) Oh, and probably a litany of federal charges as well for crossing state lines... He disappeared because of all the cops you should have attracted. :)

Especially incompetence.

“Her brother, who was riding in the train car with her, intervened and convinced Turpin to put the gun away.

“Ms Drummer said she then remarked, ‘Who pulls out a gun for something like this?’”

That’s when Turpin started firing, Ms Drummer told the TV station.”

I’m not excusing the perp here in any way, shape or form. But if some nutjob pulls a gun and is ready to shoot you, don’t tempt fate after your brother calms said nutjob down. It’s a legitimate question she asked (answer: a nutjob and/or a thug who thinks he’s a big man for waving a gun in an innocent citizen’s face), but maybe that moment wasn’t the right time to voice it.

Took out my pocket knife and started cleaning fingernails.

Let me guess: it's illegal to have a pocket knife on the PATH?

Good on you for having one anyway.

Agreed. It would have been better to bring up that question at the gunman’s trial.

In other words, he'll be walking free in 18 months.

If they don’t the Black community will say it’s racist to keep them locked up for a longer period of time.

He shot one woman in the ankle and hit another in the hand. Then, he accidentally shot himself in the leg, according to reports.

I've never taken the PATH at 5:10 AM. It must really be interesting!
