Ok, it’s a big “cat”, not a “big cat”. Savannahs are pretty much treated like domestic housecats, not big cats, under most state laws.

Savannahs aren’t purebred, they are hybrids.

“shot!!!!” You mean someone actually is allowed to own a firearm in Detroit and that they discharged it within the city limits! Oh, my! Did they have a hunting license and was there a hunting season on “big cats?”

No, I am sorry there was serious law breaking going on.

People are not allowed to take the law or there safety in their own hands. It is against government policy! It is against the law! It could lead to vigilante justice and there is noting that elected officials fear more than an armed citizenry deciding to protect themselves. Such things could get out of hand and the mob could turn on the government.

(/sarcasm) Seriously, well done if someone killed the animal and disposed of it rather than waiting for the police or animal control to show up.

Stupid brain-dead animals. I'm referring to the ones who shot this beautiful and very expensive cat. I heard that there were numerous calls to the Detroit police about it, so it's anyone's guess whether a trigger-happy LEO dunce shot it or some cretin just looking to kill something 'cos he was "bored". It was just a lost kitty looking to find its way home, and they shot it. Just its bad luck that it went into the wrong neighborhood in Detroit. I just hope it didn't suffer.

It may very well have been microchipped. My 2 kittehs are. But microchipping only works if you take the pet into a vet or humane society and have it scanned. Otherwise, it's just a rice-sized little chip usually inserted into the muscle between the shoulder blades, invisible and mute.

Here is a picture of a Savannah cat:

I think a better solution would have been to introduce wolves.
Detroit would make excellent wolf habitat.

Why? It was a pet that got lost........It was a pet that wasn't a danger to anyone and never once exhibited any hostility towards anyone that had contact with it, helped feed it and had actually petted it.

This was a media driven event! A representative from "Paws for the Cause" was just now on the radio explaining that she and others had been searching for this cat prior to it being killed. They had informed the local media outlets exactly what kind of a cat it was and that it wasn't 4 ft. high as they reported. It was only 2 feet high when seated.

The media instead continued to report it as a mysterious huge cat!

As far as shooting it, discharging a firearm within a city limit here in S.E. Michigan is against the law. And likely the same in any other community across this country........

You don't shoot and kill an animal simply because you don't know what it is..........IF you do and if you support that mentality then you have no business owning a firearm or calling yourself a hunter.

The rep from Paws for the Cause said a resident of the neighborhood she was canvassing directed her to the garbage can where the dead cat was thrown. It wasn't determined if that person was the one who actually killed the cat and the rep wasn't in a position to find out who actually shot it.

The place is overrun with feral animals, because there is no money for animal control. The city should pay bounties. Roaming packs of animals pose a danger for a variety of reasons.

I read on one website that the person who showed them where the cat was thrown WAS the shooter. Why on earth would they have shot this beautiful cat? I guess they were “bored” or dumber than a bag of cat poop. They deserve to live in the morass of ignorance and stupidity that is Detroit. Just a real shame they had to shoot this kitty, who was someone’s beloved pet.

The lady from Paws for the Cause suspected it may have been the person since they knew exactly where the cat's body had been dumped but she wasn't certain........
