British MPs have voted against possible military action against Syria to deter the use of chemical weapons.

David Cameron said it was clear the British Parliament does not want action and "I will act accordingly".

The government motion was defeated 285 to 272, a majority of 13 votes.

I have no answer to that question so I'm going to repeat it. WHERE THE HELL IS CONGRESS?

Congress, which in our system represents the sovereign (us), has abdicated or given over its powers to the other branches of the government, beginning in 1913 and winding up some time in the past few years.

Congress is now a strictly ceremonial body, going through the motions of a representative republic, but having surrendered the substance.

In 1941, the Congress said the following: "the President is hereby authorized and directed to employ the entire naval and military forces of the United States and the resources of the Government to carry on war against the Imperial Government of Japan..."

Boehner's pathetic bleating about Congress being "advised" or "consulted" has it completely backwards. Of course, if Congress WERE consulted there is about as much chance that they would vote DOWN a war resolution as there is that Elizabeth II would refuse the royal warrant.

Congress is an empty shell. And it is OUR power and OUR sovereignty that is thereby overthrown.

I’m no expert on the (unwritten) British constitution, but I thought that ANY government motion that involved “grave matters” (and asking the sovereign to send in the Forces is such a matter) was, by definition, also a confidence vote.

After all, if the government wants to go to war and the House does not, in what way can that government be said to retain the confidence of the House?

Nonsense. You can only spin bullsh*t so far. I watch the German news and read the British press on a daily basis. Obama is a subject of ridicule. He has painted himself into a corner. We will see if he launches a strike or not. I bet he will just to save face.

The only other face-saving measure would be a vote in Congress so Congress can make the decision for him. 9% of the American public supports military action.

Nothing angers me more than the passive attitude of our current congress!! GOD HELP US... THEY ARE MORONS.

I am a descendent of Abraham Clark, one of the signers of The Declaration of Independence and I am ashamed of my country!!

I don’t like these “allies” not siding with us. Are we going to have to go at it with just the French at our backs? Our troops deserve more respect. Guess we can call them French Fries again but start with Freedom Muffins.

It is intentional. My Senator, Corker supports this bombing nonsense.
But I bet he is too coward to put his support on record with a vote.

IMO the British go this one right. We have no business joining the Syrian fight on either side. This is a no win situation. Let them fight it out amongst themselves.

Asking congress may be the only way for Obama to back down without losing face. Man, he is such a frigging retard.

UK hasn’t been our ally since the Churchill bust was insultingly returned. Thanks, Obama.

That said, the UK parliament voted correctly. It has more integrity than our Congress, much like the UK press does to our MSM. Maybe the Queen will take us back????

Cameron didn’t lose the vote. Obama did. No nation in the world wants to be associated with the incompetence coming out of this White House.
