Liz Cheney: ‘I Am Not Pro-Gay Marriage’

Wyoming senatorial candidate Liz Cheney definitively stated her opposition to gay marriage on Friday, despite the pro-marriage stance of her father Dick Cheney, and her sister Mary Cheney, who married her partner last year.

“I am strongly pro-life and I am not pro-gay marriage,” declared Cheney in a campaign statement. “I believe the issue of marriage must be decided by the states, and by the people in the states, not by judges and not even by legislators, but by the people themselves.”

Cheney issued the statement because she felt opponent (and friend of her father’s) Mike Enzi was “distorting her views” on the issue via a robocall that asked respondents, “Are you aware that Liz Cheney supports abortion and aggressively promotes gay marriage?”

“The people of Wyoming deserve an honest campaign,” Cheney said. “They should not be subject to the kind of dirty tricks this push poll represents.”

Seems pretty obvious to me, I mean what else could her motive be? Help Mike Enzi who is to Liz’s right on the issue? Lol. Trying to paint her sister as anti-gay only helps Liz in the primary and would in the general election too.

Typical politics, I’ll compare it to an old race, in 2006 liberal democrat and gay activist Ron Gunzburger (who runs the excellent poltiics1.com which lists candidates for every statewide and congressional race) insisted that his friend, closeted gay RINO (at the time) Charlie Crist was a steadfast conservative, it wasn’t because he wanted Crist to lose the primary to Bill McCollum!

Excuse that’s Tom Gallagher that was Crist’s 2006 primary opponent.

I believe the issue of marriage must be decided by the states, and by the people in the states, not by judges and not even by legislators, but by the people themselves … Hmm. That is not republican (in terms of form of government), but purely democratic. The Founding Fathers believed in private morality upholding the state(s), not letting popular democracy decide whether a state goes Sodom/Gomorrah.

Isn't that the way the Founders purposely set it up? Representative Republic entails the whole Nation and the States, as smaller entities get their votes in a Democratic vote. A single State doesn't affect the Nation as a whole, but gets to make decisions that the Feds don't get to make for States. In order to OK/Ban something in all the States, you need Federal push and then it would be tyranny.

Not according to the Constitution, which guarantees every state a republican (not democratic) form of government per Article IV Section 4.

And as for one single state not affecting the whole nation, consider the so-called California Effect. George Washington meant what he said about religion and private morality being “indispensable supports” to the entire nation.

Liz is the antithesis of Conservative. She believes, like all good neocons, that we belong enmeshed in the affairs of all nations of the world. She believes, like her father and other good little members of the CFR, that we have a democracy that must be exported.

If Rubio was smart, he would endorse Cheney to help Mike Enzi.

At best, this is a misrepresentation of her belief.
