President Obama ordered two more executive actions Thursday to restrict guns, banning the re-importation of military surplus firearms to private entities and proposing a regulation that would close a loophole in background checks.

Also, the administration said it will deny requests to bring military-grade firearms back into the U.S. to private entities, with a few exceptions, such as for museums. Currently, when the U.S. provides military firearms to its allies, either as direct commercial sales or through the foreign military sales or military assistance programs, those firearms may not be imported back into the United States without U.S. government approval.

Obama has no problem disclosing his war plans for Syria to the world while he disarms the American citizen as best he can........if ever an American Citizen needed to be armed it is now.

The Dem/libs have been engaging in a steady push to infringe on our right to keep and bear arms for decades. And this is how it has been working out for them in the last two decades...

• The percentage of Americans who own guns has increased.
• The percentage of Americans who believe we have a right to own guns has increased.
• The number of guns owned per gun owner has increased.
• The amount of ammunition possessed per gun owner has increased.
• Concealed carry laws have spread from state to state like wildfire.
• Castle Doctrine laws have been passed in numerous states that didn't have them.
• Stand Your Ground laws have been passed in more states than had them before.
• Gun rights lobbying groups have become a cottage industry unto themselves sprouting up like mushrooms after a rainstorm.
• In the worst economy since the Great Depression the firearms industry can't keep up with orders or expand fast enough.
• 65.4 Million Guns Bought Since Obama Took Office, 91% More Than Bush's First-Term Total
• 46,455 Background Checks For Gun Purchases Each Day Under Obama

And in the last two months... (Nov. 2012 and Dec. 2012)

• Americans Buy Enough Guns in Last Two Months to Outfit the Entire Chinese and Indian Armies
• NRA membership has increased by 250,000. (Jan. 2013)

As bad as this order is, it should not affect the vast majority of surplus guns that are imported commercially. As I understand it, this only stops rifles that were sent by the US to its allies from coming back.

What they’re trying to do is make what we have illegal so that we’re criminals. We may be armed, but if we use the gun it’s an excuse to arrest us. Even if it’s a bogus prosecution, any prosecution would bankrupt the typical individual.

Neither of these "proposals" is within the administrative purvey of an EO. They are an unconstitutional usurpation of power.

Diogenesis, don’t you find it interesting that Barry O. is (for the first time) deferring to the Constitution and Congress now as his predicament in Syria escalates...did he just abdicate the Oval Office?

The importation issue is already under BATFE, since 1968. This is just an announcement of a new executive policy, using that existing law. Bush 41 did the same.

That’s the way to do it! My father introduced me to guns and shooting at an early age and that had a lot to do with forming my views of liberty and the freedom of the individual as part of what America was intended to be at its founding.
