STAMFORD, Conn. (AP) - Beetle Bailey was known to be a lazy Army private, but the creator of the popular comic strip is getting accolades from top military brass and others as he celebrates his 90th birthday.

Mort Walker is receiving good wishes from Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Martin Dempsey, Connecticut Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Dolly Parton and even Prince Albert II of Monaco.

Good for him! One of my all time favorite comic strips along with Gasoline Alley and Prince Valiant.

Mort Walker bump! Cartoonists are some of the most creative people around.

Imagine having to come up with an original, three - six panel story everyday, seven days a week. That’s quite a challenge.

Love the Beetle!

Every time I read it I think: Dad...you were so young.

God Bless Mort Walker! But he hasn't come up with an original comic strip in 30 years.

Always one of my favorites until there was an anti-gun day in which many, including Bettle Bailey made very anti-gun statements.

Beetle Bailey bump

For those who may not remember, or even ever knew, Mort Walker also did a long-running strip titled "Hi and Lois". "Lois" was actually "Lois Bailey" before she married "Hi", and was Beetle's sister...

So Trixie is Beetle’s niece—and does about as much work as Beetle does.
