There is no method in the domain of man that will truly stop this (or really, any) sort of evil. None. Nyet. Nein. At best man acting on his own can sweep evil under the rug.
There is something in the domain of God that will, however. It’s called the gospel. And it is no wimpy fluffy religious fooferaw. It’s as heavy as a heaven full of something denser than gold, but we got to be willing to BELIEVE in it.

The battle involves a lot more than meets the eye.
We see a creep chillingly killing someone who didn’t do anything to ask for it.
What we do NOT see, until God gives us the eyes, is a celestial feud between the rebel angels (Satan and demons), and God.
This feud has already been going on for a long time and mankind chose the wrong side in it. Even the most “innocent” people.
But God has decided to field a plan so as not to let mankind be trapped behind this spiritual eight ball (and this plan also frustrates the devil, who is already bound in a chain, no end). How we see it is a salvation story, the familiar biblical account of Jesus and His appeal to believe upon Him for salvation of one’s eternal life.
But we also see it as a story of humankind being drafted into an army to fight a spiritual war, in which the aim is to neutralize the power of demons by putting the truth of God out. Demons can lie big time but they cannot invoke the true power that God can.
So if looking at this horror gets you to say “OH, GOD!” then good! It’s doing just what God wanted it to do. Now if you follow up on that, you will be well on the way to winning this fight against demons. When demons are licked, people give up evil, enemies become friends, in general all sorts of wonderful things happen to humanity. We would be stupid to dodge this draft!

I would like to see the source of those numbers for pre-1950 homicides.
I have seen numbers much lower than that for the United States, and it seems suspicious that the numbers go way up during periods of war, such as the Revolutionary war and the Civil War.
I suspect the author is counting all war deaths as “homicides” but I cannot prove it.
I have also read that while the murder rate amongst the general pop has decreased, it has risen again amongst the black population. I just read that somewhere today, I don’t remember where, so I’d have to find a source.

It is possible, but seems unlikely, as the black homicide numbers are a significant majority of the homicides in the United States.
In DC and much of Maryland, this type of sentencing would be called “Wishful thinking”.
Thank Eric Holder for this, and the judges he and Obama want to put on the federal bench.
Here in Virginia we take murder seriously and use the death penalty, but not enough.
However, there are seveal gang task forces in Virginia, DC and even Maryland who are cracking down hard on both black and Hispanic gangs. 24 got rolled up the other day. Problem is some of the prosecutors plead serious charges down to the point that they become a joke, esp. robbery with a gun.
We need more prisons, more prosecutors with balls, and judges who are willing to protect society from the predators that roam our neighborhoods and cities. No more excuses because little DaWanTon and MoQuan (a real name) are feral psychopaths and blame their problems on society.
Society say, “Fuck you”. You did the crime, you do ALL of the time”.
I’m part of society and I agree with my statement.
Legal concealed carry is a religion in my family (plus one K9, one cop and a whole lot of other good stuff).
Unfortunately we are not allowed to protect ourselves in DC or Maryland because neither has reciprocity with Virginia. That is why we never go into DC at night, don’t shop there, and will never live there.
I feel sorry for the decent blacks and Hispanics who have to live in fear of both gangs and just street thugs who should have been kept in jail. The body count just keeps rising and the Democratic politicians don’t give a shit.
All they want to do is raise taxes and get more payoffs.

Don’t be overly nostalgic. There has always been awful problems, though they change over time, and today seems like paradise compared to many of these.
In context, the late 1940’s and 1950s were marked by the collapse of the existing social order, which was typified by racial segregation in most of the US, sectarian religious clique control of most towns, college educated housewives going mad with boredom, tremendous xenophobic paranoia and a deep seated fear of nuclear war, and worsening air and water pollution.
Despite its technological advantages, the US came very close to losing the Korean War, and likely pulled off a stalemate only because of an epidemic of pulmonary hemorrhagic hantavirus that decimated the Chinese army.
As far as morality went, it was so twisted and corrupt that the establishment of the Kinsey Institute in 1947, on the campus of Indiana University, in the heart of the Bible belt, was greeted with glee in much of the country, as a slap in the face of the existing order. Socially it was seen as a cultural “Scopes trial” between authoritarian prudes and sexual liberty, if not license.
It did not happen spontaneously, but only as a reaction to intense sexual and social repression; most of which the returning veterans refused to tolerate.
Their goals were not lewd, they wanted to marry, have a good job, have and raise children, buy a home, and “live happily ever after”. And they did not tolerate annoying and intrusive people interfering with that for whatever reasons.
(I’d like to add as a note, that the low disease rate of the time can to a great extent can be credited to an intense US government propaganda effort during and after the war, to teach the public hygiene; and the development of antibiotics.)
Finally, an awful lot of the illusion that it was good times in America can be traced to censorship on the part of the news media. Many problems they wouldn’t report; many criticisms they wouldn’t make; and free speech pretty much only applied to *some* political speech.
Because of socialist Eugene V. Debs winning millions of votes, even mentioning third political parties was carefully scrutinized to insure that it did not offend the powers that be.

Sorry to hear they made it so easy sometimes. OTOH, sitting in civilian traffic in a place like Omaha, it’s not difficult to understand how this lady failed to comprehend the danger around her. Prayers, for the comfort of her family.
Andrea Kruger, a wife and mother of three, was on her way home from work, approaching the intersection of 168th and Fort... Nikko Jenkins, along with an unidentified second party were in a vehicle stopped at that intersection... Jenkins got out of his car, went over to Kruger's, opened the door, pulled her out into the street and shot her several times in the head.The dirty bastards should fry on TV.
