Putin Didn't Save Obama, He Beat Him
The Weekly Standard ^ | Sep 10, 2013 | Lee Smith

Maybe Barack Obama and Vladimir Putin really did discuss the idea of putting Syrian chemical weapons under international control last week on the sidelines of the G20 conference. Putin sure doesn’t care that Obama’s taking credit for the proposal, or that the administration is posturing like a Mob enforcer. “The only reason why we are seeing this proposal,” said White House spokesman Jay Carney, “is because of the U.S. threat of military action.”

Right, Putin is laughing to himself. Whatever. If Obama wants to sell it like a Christmas miracle on Pennsylvania Avenue that’s fine with Putin, because Putin won.

Reset with Russia was originally a strategic priority for the Obama administration because it saw Moscow as the key to getting Iran to come to the negotiating table. Putin, from the White House’s perspective, was destined for the role of junior partner. Now Putin has turned “Reset” upside down. By helping Obama out of a jam with Syria, Putin has made himself the senior partner to whom the White House is now beholden. Accordingly, when Putin proposes the same sort of deal with Iran, with Russia having established its bona fides as an interlocutor for Syria, Obama is almost certain to jump at it.

What’s unclear is whether Obama understands that his foreign policy legacy will be to have ruined the American position in the Middle East, our patrimony of the last seven decades. If the 1979 takeover of the U.S. embassy in Tehran signaled weakness, the Russian deal screams surrender. The real surprise is that it’s not Iran kicking the United States out of the region under Obama’s watch, but Putin. . . .

Putin sure doesn’t care that Obama’s taking credit for the proposal

That's the best way to win....win in a way that your opponent actually feels good about it.

Putin has been running circles around Buggery since May and this is the second threat of war with Russia since then over Syria. Putin has Buggery on his “list” too killing him by the death of 1000 cuts.

Damn sad when a Russian President & former KGB Officer had to stop a US President from starting WWIII and with the same action show the world just how weak “0” is. Then “0” and Kerry prove just how stupid they are by taking credit and of course the MSM is all in on just how brilliant a move Kerry & “0” made.

Bet the House of Saudi is just pissed. When will the next Saudi money backed Terrorist attack on a US event happen? Remember the Saudi money man in Boston that was whisked out of the country!

Much as I relish the world now seeing how incompetent this feckless fool is, it is not good for America to be this compromised.

Yes, it is a two-edged sword.

Now consider---Onono's dithering on Syria---made to look like a fool on the world state----has put a serious crimp in his sub rosa plans to be president forever.

Obama is not our friend. Putin might be, but Obama most definitely is not.

I was going to contradict you and offer up the name of one Jimmy Carter.

But as I thought about it, Zbigniew Brzezinski seems like a kind of genius compared the leading lights of Team 0bama.

So your original statement stands.

Putin Saved America from going into another war. Putin is our friend.......

That's not too far from the truth but for another reason. There's a whole other dynamic going on here.

I believe Putin (a committed Christian) is siding w/ Assad---b/c Assad accepts Christians. The Syrian rebels are Muslims who want to destroy Christianity.

The rebels want Assad out b/c he interferes w/ the Muzzie plan to destroy Christians.

NOTE WELL And when Egyptian Gen al-Sisi defended Egyptian Christians against marauding Muslims.... al-Sisi also got backing from Russia's Putin......and China.....NOT Obama.

At the height of the Egyptian crisis, when vacationing Ohoho called al-Sisi, the general refused to take his call---showing al-Sisi's determination not to let Ohoho interfere in his plan to drive Muslims out of Egyptian politics.

Al-Sisi's got the lay of the land---he and Putin know who's got the ear of our Muslim president.

What really happened:

Assad is here to stay. He is beating the rebels badly and it is just a matter of time.
Putin, through Assad, protects Christians which is a concern of his.
Assad secures the gas from his own people as well as rebels.

Possible effect: Israel is now protected from massive retaliation by Assad.

Putin is no the Big Man On Campus.

Barry goes back to handling Ben Ghazi, the IRS scandal, fast and furious etc, ad nauseum.

Clean win for Putin.

It would be ironic if Putin wins the Nobel Peace Prize. Obama and Kerry look like bumbling idiots who get “saved” by the Russians.

A question I have is the opposition in all of this. They must feel very betrayed by Obama. This must be seen by their perspective that it weakens their opposition against assad. Also you can’t disarm assad of his chemical weapons without demanding the same from the opposition.

This is why IMHO this is going to fail. I think by calling this bluff on obam putin and assad are in the catbird seat. I think behind the scenes the administration is not happy. It has been reported that the opposition does not want this deal. Now the Russians are moving in for the kill. They already set a condition that the us must take use of force off the table before a deal would be agreed to. I don’t see this as a way out for Obama at all.
