Navy Yard shooting: AR-15, back in the news -- briefly
CNN ^ | 9/17/2013 | Ben Brumfield, CNN

It has been called the most popular rifle in America, and it's back in the spotlight after Monday's shooting at the Navy Yard: The AR-15.

Authorities said when Aaron Alexis unleashed a barrage of bullets Monday, he was carrying a rifle and a handgun. But he did most of the shooting with the weapon used in so many other rampages that shocked the nation:

List of 4 other shootings.

< SNIP>

With Monday's incident, the gun will likely be in the crosshairs again. And again, it's likely nothing will change.

Diane Feinstein and the gun grabbing media are going waaaaaaay out on a very high limb with a big crack. Are they actually arguing that police and MPs shouldn't be issued semi-automatic pistols and automatic rifles?

True on the first part, but not so much on the second. The information that the gunman only had a shotgun and the AR-15 and handgun were pickups is already out there. No way to put the genie back in the bottle.

NRA is going to hit DiFi and the other gun-grabbers in the press and political class HARD on that.

Our only response anytime a columnist or politician calls for an assault weapons ban, (or whatever gun control flavor of the week they are pushing,) should be to post a picture of the two Colorado state senators that were defeated in last weeks recall... Just post the pictures, say nothing else, a picture is more powerful than words.

There should be enough AR-15s in the pipeline that it shouldn’t repeat what happened after Sandy Hook. I hope. My FFL isn’t that optimistic. I’ll see later this morning.

Tell you the truth -- while Sandy Hook occurred at JUST TOO CONVENIENT A TIME for OTrauma -- this event does NOT fit the narrative. The shooter is black. He picked up an AR-15 and a pistol from downed guards. Not in the narrative they desired AT ALL.

So, I reject the notion that this one was conspiratorial. Sandy Hook, on the other hand....

I read one report that it was a three round burst model. IF this is true, then this was not an AR15 but a US FEDERAL GOVERNMENT M4 or M16A2 modified for three round burst fire... as most all Military and Federal agency Stoner weapons are modified to operate. Makes one say hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!

Lib-dem a-hole Bob Schrum was Tweeting yesterday, before the blood had even dried, about the need for more gun control. I don’t Tweet, but I read it here on FR in a thread.

M16A2 or M4 modified like almost every model the Fed owns... for three round burst. It has been reported on fox via another FReeper that this “AR15” was so modified. That means it was not an AR15.

So, time to disarm the military
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
Been that way for a LONG while. Once inside the gate loaded weapons are taboo - unless, of course, on the range.

Only weapons/ammo with Base Police (SP/MP/AP) and most gates have GSA types or contractors guarding them.

The official ‘no weapons/ammo’ on base can be ‘noticed’ back to at least Pearl Harbor - when they had problem getting an armorer to open the LOCKED weapon/ammo lockers.

Even now, going back at least to Clinton, troops in the field get ‘disarmed’ when the brass shows up. Maybe that was going on ‘forever’ but only recently ‘publicized’.

Remember when EVERYTHING bigger than a ‘Red Ryder’ was considered an UZI, now the idiots name of choice is AR-15.

No, he is praying for it as are all gun dealers... when they fondly look back to post sandy hook and a 3 year backorder on AR’s and ammo. Sales were slooooooowing down badly.

I suspect it was an M4 or M16, taken from one of the guards or LEO, and not an AR-15. Same with 9mm semi-auto pistol. I read he only had a 12ga to start with but ‘gathered’ more weapons along the way, as he killed others. But that doesn’t fit the libs’ agenda. They want it to be an AR-15.

Do they have the AR15 on military bases? I thought the AR15 is the civilian version of the M16.

Not having any military background, I don’t know for sure. I do know some LEOs carry semi-auto AR-15s, around here, but I’ll defer to someone with a military background for the M16 vs AR15 question.

The media is working overtime to frame this in a way that supports another gun control move. Looks like we're in for another fight. If we can keep the media honest, this should be a short battle and an easy victory for us.

The guy obtained the rifle, whatever it was, and handgun from some sort of LEO using a Remington 870 pump action shotgun, probably the most common shotgun in America so banning assault weapons wouldn't have stopped him.

As far as background checks go, he wasn't a felon and he wasn't dishonorably discharged from the military so there's no disqualifier there. The shotgun was obtained legally and not through any "gun show loophole". Banning private forearms sales wouldn't have stopped him.

Fact is, the killer did not bring the AR-15 into the building. He took it from a security guard in the building, along with a pistol. He entered with “only” a shot gun!!! Gun control legislation is going nowhere!!! The man was a true blue, dyed-in-the-wool Obamabot nutcase......another son of Obama!!!
