SNIP Six months into his papacy, Pope Francis sent shock waves through the Roman Catholic church on Thursday with the publication of his remarks that the church had grown “obsessed” with abortion, gay marriage and contraception, and that he had chosen not to talk about those issues despite recriminations from critics.

I read the whole article. The Pope used the word “obsessed”. If he was mistranslated, he needs to say so immediately.

Yessir, those Catholics who vote for Obama and other pro-aborts are no longer Catholic.

How can you say that when the most prominent and honored Catholics in America are pro-abort democrat party leaders?

When the Kennedys receive the full pomp and ceremony of the Catholic church on their deaths, and Nancy Pelosi and Joe Biden meets with their Pope and take communion at the Vatican, don't you think it rings false to claim that voting democrat is a no-no for Catholics?

The face of the Catholic church in America is largely democrat party leaders.

You are correct. It’s a public scandal, and Rome has done nothing about it(and with the current Pope, likely won’t for a long time). But it doesn’t mean that the Church’s official teaching supports the Democrats. The Catholic Church isn’t just the reigning Pope, or the local Bishop. It’s a belief that goes back 2,000 years. If the present hierarchy is unfaithful to the patrimony that was handed down to them, it doesn’t invalidate the Faith itself. Judas betrayed Christ. Peter denied Him. But they were both Apostles.

There are ways of asking a question, and the manner you chose to do so, wreaked of a superiority complex. Read your questions again.

Well, I read my questions again as you asked. I guess one could have taken it as I was being judgmental as you did, although I really am curious and was looking for some kind of explanation. Well, there's a heresy that Pope Leo XIII called "Americanism" that extolled work and labor over prayer, and devotion to the true religion. Most of the hierarchy in this country even prior to Vatican II were adherents of this error. They put politics over the Faith. Men like Cardinal Spellman and Cushing were Americanists and Democrats who put politics before faith. Their platitudes sounded like the kind of "public welfare" statements you would find in comic books and news media extolling all kinds of natural solutions to problems that really only have, from a Christian point of view, supernatural solutions. They allied themselves with FDR and the other Democrats. And it reaped disaster for the Catholic Church in this country. And we're still living through that disaster, and it shows no signs of abating.

Only prayer and fasting can cast out this demon. Socialism and liberation theology have taken over the Church right up to the very throne of Peter, and we need to pray that the Bishops of the Catholic Church wake up soon.

I recommend a thicker skin when posting on here. If we take personal umbrage at every perceived slight, we’ll never get to the positive dialog. I have had many uplifting conversations from initially negative comments. In the end, the results aren’t up to us and the slights aren’t against us (in a religious conversation).
