Sure we need brain surgeons, physicists, and engineers but we really need builders and makers. I think the insightful Mike Rowe really nailed it with this speech from a few years ago.

Those college educated people should be only the best and brightest out on the cutting edge and they should make very good money doing so. The builders and makers should make enough to support their families and live without fear of being broke next week.

A good many jobs requiring degrees really don’t. Yep...my job but you don’t need it....but the job requires it...make sense?

graphics is really bad about this because all the failed artistes need teaching jobs. assuming both can teach well i would rather have a HS grad working at a design firm for 5 years teaching me adobe photoshop than a guy with minimum software but knows the difference between monet and manet, but the graphics school mafia has to protect itself from self taught folks.

One of the most useless things on the face of the planet is a city born and raised collage grad doing a grunt job.

If you don’t keep your eye on them every minute they will get themselves or someone else hurt or killed.

Most can’t or wont learn.

Every day it’s something else they are doing that an uneducated kid from the country would know not to do.

What color of crayon do you use?”

That’s funny. Actually last year I found some great patriotic themed coloring books for kids and I bought an extra one and a box of crayons and sent them to Cornyn for Christmas. Reminds me that I never received a thank you note. How rude of him!

I actually get your point.
Tried explaining to my husband, that I am not a city girl, I am so uncomfortable in a big city (about 50K is my limit)
He said wait you grew up in SO California, but I grew up in rural communities, with people who were practical and HARD working - repeat practical
There are hard working people everywhere, but I find city folk pompous and condescending.
So again, totally get what you are putting down. ;-)

Times are hard now. I remember having to drop out of college and come home to Chicago. 1980. I put out the word I was looking for work and got two offers to work at the CBOT, another to be a cop and another to work for selling this new thing called a cell phone. All paid around $500.00 a week with benefits.

Interesting that no one is seeking a Master’s degree for a stay at home wife and mother.

I bought a few of those and other kids’ books off the Infowars website. My kids read the books, weren’t into the puzzle/coloring so much. Did give some to charity and as presents, though I’m not sure how that went over.

They were doing that in the 1970s.

The common joke was PhD’s driving cabs and flipping burgers.

Got news....they were doing it in the 30's too during Roosevelt's experiment in Keynesian Economics. It took WWII to get the wheels of industry rolling again but it left us with monstrous debt, countless dead and maimed and a society that was turned on its head. The ultimate "Wag the Dog" that Obama is planning?

I have a degree and work as a records manager/archivist in a government office. Yet the most knowledgeable person in our office started here fresh out of high school over 40 years ago. She has knowledge that can only be gained by coming up through the ranks. I have great respect for her.

FWIW: I am an over-50 non-traditional college student, 6 credit hours away from *finally* getting the sheepskin ...

As a senior, I just received a (student) e-mail from Wal-Mart inviting me to explore //all the possibilities// available as a \\potential\\ employee of their fine firm.

For fun (I have a good job already) I e-mailed my question: do these positions offer ^^@@ medical benefits?

doubtful

=^P

Mis-educated, over-educated; higher education is folly.

Well, duuuhhh!

I did that in 1972. Never held a job where a degree was required and I spent 35 plus years with 2 companies in the same industry. Had a Vice Presidents title at one time, for what that is worth.

Life is not about paper, but about doing things.

Sent the coloring book and crayons to his office in Austin. Waste of time to send anything to DC, even by email or that ridiculous internet form.

Did give some to charity and as presents...”

Our Pubby Women’s group was selling some great books about the meaning of Christmas and I did give one to several families on our block who have small children. Small children general enjoy having their parents read to them so maybe the parents learned something too. We also donated a copy to each of our local libraries and gave two copies to Texas Children’s Hospital for their children’s library.

I have given conservative books to a lot of people as gifts and never really cared whether they appreciated them or not. It’s all about getting one person at a time to open their mind and also to just sit down and read something worthwhile.

We’re going to get some copies of Rush Limbaugh’s latest book and donate them to our local libraries also.

Wait tables ad Denny’s. Denny’s has a high number of wait staff with bachelors and masters degrees so you will be working with your peers. Mind your mouth, manners and smile a lot and you should be successful in your new career. Try to suppress any NE accent or mannerisms as they annoying and distracting which will reduce your tips.
