Tough new limits on the amount of heat-trapping emissions new power plants can emit will likely accelerate a shift away from coal-fired power and toward electricity generated with natural gas, wind, and sunshine.
Power prices for homes, businesses and factories may eventually rise, and nuclear power could return to fashion.
The rule proposed by the Obama administration Friday will have little effect on the mix of power sources and electricity prices anytime soon because it only applies to new power plants and is likely to be challenged in court.

Wonder what heat trapping emissions they are?
This is only true if wind turbines and solar continue to be government subsidized and forced upon the utilities.
Is he against coal because it’s black?
Greenhouse gases....predominately carbon dioxide. Also water vapors, methane, ozone. They absorb infrared heat like a sponge and trap it in the atmosphere....the greenhouse effect. Causes the atmosphere to heat up and melts the icecaps.....but it also causes plants/trees to grow faster because they use CO2 in photosynthesis....this creates more water vapor/rain and so on...
The more CO2 the faster plants, trees, algae, etc grow....when they die the keep the C02 trapped in them...they become coal over eons, decompose and become methane, etc.
When coal and oil is burned it releases all the trapped C02 back into the atmosphere.....cycle begins again. We are releasing more C02 than is being banked by the plants.
That is the narrative. It is true...but fast vegetative growth is good. We eat them and build houses from them. Rain is good. Warm weather is....well, good.
They make it bad to attack coal. To restrict the use of coal weakens and impoverishes America. Just like preventing domestic oil development.
That is the end game. Weaken the US and deny her use of her own resources.
The enviro whackos are just useful idiots used by the internationalists. They are no different that the 1960’s anti-war protesters and 70’s and 80’s nuke disarmament morons. Pawns in the great game.
Yes a gas power plant is much cheaper to build than a coal powered plant but new coal plants are usually built on the same site as existing plants if possible to take advantage of the pre-existing rail and power lines.
My electric utility recently studied the viability of sighting a new gas plant on the site of soon to be decommissioned coal plant to take advantage of the power lines and other pre-existing necessities.
The study determined that the cost of building a new 16 inch gas pipe line 50 miles long would be prohibitive. Not mention of overcoming the NIMBY law suites.
As I’ve mentioned, Obama has not just done damage over the last 5 years, or will do it for the next three years, he’s done very long term damage to the economy. No business in their right mind will ever build a coal plant again. No financial institutions would finance it anyway. Even if a miracle happened and a real conservative was elected in 2016, these people think in much longer terms. Another Obama, or even worse, is never more than four years away.
Also, the auto manufacturers are already working on the engines and technologies of 2020 and beyond, based on the MPG rules demanded by Obama and his buds. These will not be cheap and, the price of aluminum, which is certain to be used more in vehicles, is heavily tied to the price of electricity. I’d expect to be paying 40-45K in 2013 dollars for an average gas-powered car by then. If not for the cost of the car itself, then to subsidize the electric car buyers so that consumers will buy more of them, satisfying the CAFE (Corporate Average Fuel Economy) rules.
These realities are baked-in, and not much can be do to fix them.
OOPs that should be a 60 inch pipe line.
Thank you for the reply. I was being rhetorical, and a bit sarcastic. Your reply is well written and I agree with your conclusion. Too bad for them the globe is not warming. One other thing, the oceans are grate CO2 sponges.
You have the right of it. However, repealing CAFE Standards is simple and will be done as soon as people are being forced onto buses because they cannot afford cars. Oil and gas will be opened up immediately once the dims are out of power. Coal soon thereafter. Hope I am right. We will see.

So do I, but the carmakers are already committing a great deal of money to these technologies and techniques and they certainly will use them and get returns on the designs and products, needed or not.
Café standards forced a lot of people into Pick-up trucks.
Then the people in the pick- up trucks wanted style and features.
The work truck of yesterday that sold for less than a car has been transformed into a luxury vehicle with leather heated seats rugs on the floor electric windows, Diesel engine, 4 wheel drive an entertainment system, and a cost of $60,000 dollars.
I want a truck with wind-up windows, rubber floor mats,V-8 power, and it doesn’t even need a radio. Somewhere in the price range of $17,000 dollars.
ONLY if a conservative like maybe a Rick Perry or Ted Cruz is elected.....a squishy Republican won’t do it......never mind a Squishy Republican will never get elected!
Hey West Virginia, you fools just keep electing scum like Manchin that say one thing but in reality are waaaay up obammy’s ass.
Good luck trying to give all your coal away.
