Full title: British hero of the mall massacre: Ex Royal Marine with a handgun saved 100 lives as terrorists ran amok

A former marine emerged as a hero of the Nairobi siege yesterday after he was credited with saving up to 100 lives.

The ex soldier was having coffee at the Westgate mall when it was attacked by Islamists on Saturday.

With a gun tucked into his waistband, he was pictured helping two women from the complex.

The former soldier is said to have returned to the building on a dozen occasions, despite intense gunfire.

A friend in Nairobi said: ‘What he did was so heroic. He was having coffee with friends when it happened.

‘He went back in 12 times and saved 100 people. Imagine going back in when you knew what was going on inside.’

Our saviour: The soldier, whose gun is circled, helps two women to safety. His identity has been protected for security reasons

I’m pretty sure I saw this same photo with his face not blocked out yesterday.

I wonder how they establish 100 people saved. Why not 200 or 50 for that matter? Not taking away anything from his heroic deed . . .

They’re probably trying to make it harder for al-Shaboob to identify him so they can issue a fatwa against him.

But based on what is being reported, I would suspect a fatwa or two wouldn’t bother him much.

I saw a pic with the hero’s face not blurred, He and the women were identified as a family escaping the carnage.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they photoshopped the gun out.

That’s probably why his face is blurred: He don’t want to get locked up.

I have to wonder how he was fortunate enough to have handgun with him. My understanding is that firearms in Kenya are very restricted. Then again, the article implies that many retired military work in security assisting the army and police.

And of course, as usual, the bad guys have absolutely no problems getting any firearms they want despite the draconian laws.
