Posted on 09/24/2013 5:06:20 AM PDT by servo1969
Monday evening, GOP Minority Leader announced that he would oppose a proposed filibuster from Sens. Cruz and Lee to block the House Continuing Resolution from reaching the Senate floor. McConnell's opposition was echoed by John Cornyn, number 2 in GOP Leadership, and Sen. Cruz's colleague from Texas. The move by McConnell and Cornyn virtually assures that the Senate will begin consideration of the House bill later this week.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid needs the support of 6 Republican Senators to defeat any filibuster undertaken by Sens. Cruz and Lee, assuming he has the votes of his entire caucus. The decision by McConnell and Cornyn to vote against a filibuster ensures that Reid will have the Republican votes he needs to move forward with the bill.

It now sounds like he has possibly made political accomodation with the rats and Bevins is toast, imo.

CALL HIS DISTRICT OFFICES—HE DOESN’T SEEM TO BE TAKING CALLS/FAXES AT HIS DC OFFICE!!
The House should have passed a bill that funded Obamacare only if all waivers and exemptions were eliminated. Make Dingy Harry block the bill he backed.
He said he’s voting for the House bill that defunds Obama-care.
What about ethic hustler Rubio? Sometimes he included with Cruz and Lee, and sometimes he isn't.
“Mitch” as you call him should be opposed and defeated in the primary next year with all conservatives behind Bevin.
If McConnell makes it past the primary I would vote for a conservative third party candidate in the race if I lived in Kentucky.
Mitch is due for some tar and feathers......
I can’t believe the Republican leader in the Senate is leading the fight to keep Obamacare. We only have one party anymore, the Ruling Class Party.
Why a filibuster against taking up the House bill?
The senate must deal with the CR in some manner
“....the primary I would vote for a conservative third party candidate in the race if I lived in Kentucky...”
He is running ads here that say he is AGAINST Ob care.
and the “true conservative”.
I hope Kentucky is watching....
But I guess actions speak louder than words.. I’ll vote for
his challenger, despite the smear ads.
McConnel is pompous ass and should be retired.
The SOB is running for reelection next year. Why isn’t he being primaried?
Ted Cruz and Mike Lee are the only two Republicans in the US Senate who CONSISTENTLY make an effort to actually CONSERVE, in my humble, but usually correct opinion.
Therefore, use those two Senators to compare and contrast the present opponents to Old-Style Republican Cornyn.
My guess is that someone on the TEXAS PING list personally knows a superb future Senate candidate, cut from the same cloth as Cruz and Lee.
Yep, it is a dirty job, but we need to reach out to these future candidates, and ask them to run for Federal office for the good of their children, grandchildren and their descendants.
What we have here, is failure to communicate. ( Warden in movie Cool Hand Luke.)
We claim to be Conservatives, but what are we focused on Conserving?
Where are the men and women that are willing to be candidates to conserve what we want conserved?
The New Republican Party starts when YOU step up and act.
What has each of us done to encourage and recruit men and women to be candidates to conserve what is left of our State or Country?
How have we failed to communicate?
I thought there was a guy named Matt Bevin who was running against McConnell in the Republican primary?
60 votes to end the filibuster
51 to add 0b0z0care back in after the filibuster is ended.

You're right, I was thinking of Cornyn. Why isn't anyone primarying that SOB?
I think I'll be calling Mr. McConnell's office to inform him that I'm going to make a donation to Mr. Bevin's campaign.
Tar and feathers is too good for McConnell and Cornyn!
anecdotal evidence here, so take it with a grain of salt, but: McConnell’s mud machine has already done a great job of painting Bevin as someone who has made his fortune by feeding at the government trough. Even the people who are not against him make the slip of calling him ‘bailout bevin’. it’s catchy and you hear it everywhere. Not saying he can’t be beat, but people are getting saturated with the nickname, and it is catching on.
Not surprising. McConnell can’t run on his record so he has to tear down Bevin on no-related issues. Makes you wonder why anyone would run for office these days.
GeldingCare. The GOPe owns it.
When Wendy Davis filibustered for abortion in Texas it was inspiring! She was so strong standing there for all of us in her pink running shoes! What a hero for women everywhere!
Now when Ted Cruz filibusters to hold up a bill that he can’t stop if only to send a message that most of America doesn’t want this? Idiot. Wacko bird. Terrorist. Anarchist. Holding America hostage. This is not helpful. GOP: We will not support this.
The difference is striking, no? Dems circle the wagons even to protect adulterers and rapists. The GOP won’t stand for anything unless the nightly news says it’s okay.
Lets start that conversation by acknowledging we arent going to deport 12 million illegal immigrants... bringing these workers out of the shadows and into being taxpaying members of society. Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers.12 million more people assimilating into society. 12 million more people being productive contributors. [but hes not in favor of amnesty, snicker, definition of is is]
...by softening its edge on some volatile social issues and altering its image as the party always seemingly "eager to go to war... We do need to expand the party and grow the party and that does mean that we don't always all agree on every issue" ... the party needs to become more welcoming to individuals who disagree with basic Republican doctrine on emotional social issues such as gay marriage... "We're going to have to be a little hands off on some of these issues ... and get people into the party," Paul said.
