Skip to comments.Should David Dewhurst challenge John Cornyn?
Posted on 09/27/2013 5:45:44 AM PDT by cotton1706
Interesting question. In my mind, there is no question. But that isnt why Im writing this.
I attended the Downtown Houston Pachyderm Club weekly luncheon today as usual. As most of you know, that is my favorite club in the Houston Metro area. I attend dozens of club meetings but this is the one club that I call home. I like it because the attendees are a broad cross section of the Harris County Republican Party. You always have attorneys and judges because of The Spaghetti Warehouses proximity to the various courthouses in downtown Houston. As well, you get grassroots activists such as Harris County District Clerk Chris Daniel, Harris County Clerk Stan Stanart, and their supporters. You always have candidates testing the waters. And you have bloggers, such as Bob Price of TexasGOPVote.com, and Yvonne Larsen and Don Hooper with BJP. And always a lot of HCRP precinct chairs like Betty Avery, Peggy Lindow, Ann Lee, etc. Tea party folks like Jim Lennon and Fred Blanton. SREC reps like Valoree Swanson and Bonnie Lugo. Insiders, outsiders, grassroots, and newbies the perfect place to gauge Republican politics in Harris County. Plus, to be frank, the food is good and cheap hey, Im down with $8 for a salad, entree, and drink. Yeah, Im a (cheap) conservative!

Give Dewhurst the Boot in 2014 (((Ping List)))
To be added or removed from this list, freepmail me.
This is a low volume ping list at this time.
Why would anyone want to replace Cornyn with DEWHURST?
No, I have had enough of him too.
No. Dewhurst would be a clone of Cornyn. Let’s try to get Louis Gohmert to run for that seat. Now THERE would be another conservative senator from TX.
Ah, heck no!
“Why would anyone want to replace Cornyn with DEWHURST?”
Don’t know. But I thought it was an interesting idea when I saw the article. I want the leadership of the republicans in the senate removed from power so we get new leadership. Cornyn is the whip, and if McConnell is defeated in the primary, I don’t want him to become minority leader or majority leader.
My guess is that Dewhurst is more conservative than Cornyn but I could be wrong.
Oh boy...Tweedledum vs. Tweedledee. The dems would rejoice.
“No. Dewhurst would be a clone of Cornyn. Lets try to get Louis Gohmert to run for that seat. Now THERE would be another conservative senator from TX.”
Ok. My goal is to remove the republican leadership by any means possible. Hopefully somebody will step up that can take him out or force a runoff.
Dewhurst is another mamby pamby RINO.
Remember folks, David Dewhurst outspent Ted Cruz by leaps and bounds during their Senate race, had name recognition and the GOP establishment machine behind him....he lost to Ted Cruz.
Here in Texas, David Dewhurst lost because he is a GOP water boy. In the club.
We want a trail blazer in Cornyn’s seat. Kay Bailey Hutchison was replaced by Tea Party candidate Ted Cruz because we do not need another moderate RINO...we need strong conservatives in office.
Ok. Then forget the idea. My strategy is to remove the leadership, and want Cornyn removed.
Makes sense to me....if your a rino loving idiot. We in Texas are looking for another Ted Cruz, Dewhurst is the same as Cornyn. Louie Gomert would be a better fit.
“Perhaps you’ve noticed that some of us Texians feel strongly about Mr. Dewhurst. ;)”
Yes, I have, haha. Being from MA, obviously I don’t know the man (but don’t take that to mean that I support moderates). I just want the leadership removed from power.
Based on what I saw in Cornyn’s appearance on Fox News yesterday, I’d welcome any real conservative to run against him and I would support and give him/her money.
Right this minute....
Nothing personal...you’re not from Texas and would not know about Dewhurst!!
“Makes sense to me....if your a rino loving idiot”
Which I am not. I just want the leadership removed. Hopefully the people will rally to Wyatt or Stovall or somebody else to remove Cornyn from power or force a runoff.
“At least no-one is talking rope.
Right this minute....”
Please forgive me!! You guys know me!
No harm, no foul. ;)
Texans have seen enough of Dewhurst. He’s viewed as worse than Cornyn. Ted Cruz destroyed the turkey in debate, and Dewhurst came over as the hapless, clueless ELITE that he is. It was embarassing that Dewhurst stood side by side with Cruz. What a disaster.
As for being more conservative than Cornyn, well, who knows? Cornyn is a sleaze. I believe he is against obamacare, but he does not want to walk the walk. He only wants to talk the talk and try to fool people into believing he’s fighting something that, bottom line, he is too scared to fight.
I blame the guy who wrote about this idea. He must be the most clueless ever about Texas politics, not to mention human nature. And if he hadn’t brought it up, you would not have conceived of it, either.
Because it’s inconceivable.
I like Louis Gohmert. Tom DeLay has also been mentioned. However, I prefer someone younger and both those men - fine as they are - don’t qualify.
Talk about going from bad to worse! Dewhurst is more mainstream and would undermine Cruz every chance. Look at who supported him over Cruz in the last Senate race and you will know.
What about Greg Abbott?
Dewhurst is worse than Cornyn. That lying weasel did everything he could to slime Cruz. Dewhurst is for Dewhurst. Period. Good-old-boy(tm) to the hilt.
I agree 100%, the slime he slung on TV to discredit Cruz and now we see the real Cruz. Out to pasture with Coryn and Dewhirst.
“My guess is that Dewhurst is more conservative than Cornyn but I could be wrong.”
Yes, you are wrong.
Noooooooooooooo! We need to find a young and truly conservative candidate.
I am backpedaling from this post very quickly haha. I do searches daily on the moderates up for reelection next year and saw that article, found it interesting and put it out there. It’s clear to me now that it’s a bad idea.
I prefer Perry take it up instead or, better yet, Sarah move into Texas and run in primary.
Who wouldn’t love to have two fighters like Cruz and Palin as the two US Senators of my state>
Pardon me for interrupting a very Texas discussion. I love Texas. You guys are still the real America and it’s obvious you’re working hard to pull us back from the precipice.
Just please remember what happens when you get too many conservatives in the race - you end up electing liberals. Choose wisely.
What happened was this:
The senate was spilt, Dems/Reps on this. We needed one more vote for it to pass. A Democrat senator from Houston, and I don't remember the name, had a medical problem, and wasn't there one day. If a vote had been taken, we would have voter ID.
Dewhurst wouldn't call it up for a vote that day, saying the man had a medical problem, and he didn't want to take the vote with him out. We couldn't take the vote that day, so we didn't get voter ID approved that year.
I've never forgiven Dewhurst for that.
Dewhurst is even worse than Cornyn. Who’s floating this trial balloon?
No way jose
I have already joined the Gohmert for Senate facebook page, I hope he runs
“What about Greg Abbott?”
You are likely a Pauken for governor man because that is what they are saying. Don’t make a fool of yourself and suggest this Pauken idea so Abbott could be eliminated from that race. Abbott is running for governor and he will win, so cool it.
We want new leadership too, but Dewcrap is not new and he is the same as the RINOs there now
“Dewhurst is even worse than Cornyn. Whos floating this trial balloon?”
I saw the article in my daily search. If it is a trial balloon, judging from the visceral reactions to this post alone, it will fall to the earth in flames.
I could get behind Perry as a fallback position but I’d much rather have Louie Gohmert.
Abbott is running for governor, as is Tom Pauken
At best, replacing Cornyn with Dewhurst would be a lateral move.
Wyatt and Stovall have no name recognition at the moment, so there are not “too many” in this race yet
So, who should challenge Cornydog?
