Modern Arabic bibles use “Allah” for “God” — are you claiming this is an innovation, rather than a reflection of historic Arabic?

Certainly an innovation. If they meant to write “the God”, then it would be rendered “al-Ilah” in longhand rather than Allah (a different word), which refers to an old moon god specifically.
