Boehner: If this shutdown standoff is an emergency, why didn’t the Senate meet yesterday?

Via the Corner, something to keep you occupied while we wait for shutdown fee-vah to resume at 2 p.m. ET. That’s when Reid will — finally — call the Senate into session to reject the House’s new CR demanding a one-year delay to ObamaCare. Then it’ll be back to the House for Boehner’s Plan C, assuming there is one. There was chatter yesterday about maybe bringing up Vitter’s amendment to deny O-Care subsidies to members of Congress and staff, but House conservatives seem to think that’s weak tea. A one-year delay of the law seems to be as far as they’re willing to go, and Reid’s going to kill that off within the next few hours. Which means Boehner either (1) has to cut the conservatives loose and pass something with Democratic help, which might put his Speakership in trouble; (2) pass a clean “stopgap” funding resolution for a week or two to keep negotiations with the Democrats going, something conservatives also might not accept; or (3) bring on the shutdown and hope for the best, even if “the best” means the GOP taking a beating in public opinion until House conservatives relent.

There’s always a chance that Obama will cave and decide to agree to some sort of face-saving compromise. But maybe Obama’s not driving this train anymore:

When the president considered sitting down with the four congressional leaders in the White House ahead of the deadline to avert a government shutdown, Reid privately urged Obama to call off the meeting, according to several people familiar with the situation.

Yes that was a good play. Keep asking.

Someone must be helping Boehner?

It’s the weekend. The Democrats need their drugs, alcohol, and mistresses. Nothing can get done until they sober up on Monday.

Senate elections should be quite entertaining for the next few years. Lamar had better understand that a Corker Session is something wicked coming this way soon.

GFR to the whole Lott of them.

A “compromise” that congress had to have Obamacare would be ridiculous. (1) It’s too easy to overturn and (2) they can afford to pay the penalty and opt out. At least with the delay, it gives more people time to find out what’s in the bill and why it’s so hated by most self-sufficient US citizens.

No way for us to fight it that could be effective so they are not worried.

The government news media is behaving pathetically, as expected. Playing to the LIV’s by blaming the House. 0bama goes golfing but the G N M let’s him skate. PATHETIC.

The House stayed in DC. The Senate went home.
The House has offered 3 compromise CRs. The Senate refuses to even consider a compromise.
The House was available to work today. The Senate doesn't even show up until 2pm.

The House wants a compromise. The Senate wants a shutdown.

C'mon Boehner SAY IT!

Why hasn't the senate prepared a budget for the last five years? It is their primary function.

They have been doing this because they know the republicans don't have any leadership. The media is in the tank. The president and the senate have been funneling billions of dollars to their constituents and crony capitalists out of the bloated continuing resolutions and they have no intention of stopping their looting of the treasury.

Shut down the nonessential government until equilibrium is reached.

Because they already know what’s going to happen. This is all a farce for the public to posture thenselves as friends of the public and the other side as the enemy.

They’ll pass a 2 week extension and then the GOP will cave.

That's OK. Boehner’s next press conference is when he announces they will be passing a clean CR for 3 months; no strings attached, “for the good of the people”

Fold coming. Count on it.

I believe Reid is “All in”. They now know for a fact that boner is running scared and he’ll eventually cave. Reid and obama will get what they want. And what they want is for America will collapse.

Has anyone ever seen Harry Reid smile? Look for it any day now.
