As government shutdown nears, Deval Patrick criticizes 'radical right wing' for lack of compromise

BOSTON — As the federal government moved closer to a partial shutdown, Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick on Monday criticized conservative Republicans in Washington for the failure of Congress to compromise and avoid a closure.

"I don't think there is a citizen who ought not be seriously dismayed by the willingness of a small group of radical right wing Tea Party members to drive the economy and the country over a cliff," Patrick told reporters on Beacon Hill.

Patrick said the shutdown "is a very dumb thing to do and a very disappointing thing."

Patrick criticized the U.S. House's approval of a funding bill that would delay President Barack Obama’s signature 2010 health-care law for one year and repeal a tax on medical devices. The U.S. Senate on Monday voted 54 to 46 along party lines to turn down the House bill.

Patrick suggested that Republicans in the House are acting against the will of voters.

"Elections mean something," Patrick said. "Votes in Congress mean something. We've had votes, we've had elections and we've had a Supreme Court decision that affirms health care reform in this country. An awful lot of people will benefit from it. We need to move on."

Patrick outlined some of the effects of a possible shutdown.

"Ready or not, if it comes we we're going to have to deal with it. It is not going to be pretty.

"In addition to the big picture and how it affects an economic recovery nationally, something that no economist or analyst quarrels with, there are going to be air traffic controllers and food inspectors and other federal employees here, who if they do work, won't be paid for that work for a period of time."

"There are grant programs that get suspended. There are student loan programs, small business loan program – all of that freezes in the event of a shutdown."

Obama said Friday that a shutdown would freeze federal loans for rural communities, small business owners and families buying a home.

The Food and Drug Administration said it would limit some activities but would continue to monitor recalls and would continue investigations.

The partial shutdown begins at midnight tonight when the federal fiscal year ends. Many employees face furloughs unless they are considered essential such as active military members.

Take a look at what students are “learning” at our local Diversity University.

Editorial cm-life.com

“Even by their low standards, House Republicans are acting in an embarrassingly reckless manner, and the entire nation is about to suffer...
Objecting to anything Obama ... or anyone to the left of Ted Cruz is the one and only goal of the modern Republican Party.
This is a party that exists solely to create chaos in Washington.. and make Obama look bad, even if that means terrible things for this country.”

Elections mean something," Patrick said. "Votes in Congress mean something. We've had votes, we've had elections and we've had a Supreme Court decision that affirms health care reform in this country.

We even once had the 18th amendment that prohibited the sale of alcohol. Somehow, that "law of the land," "vote in Congress... elections... decisions..." got changed.

The MSM is trying to paint a target on real patriots who stand in the way of liberal socialist progressivism that wants to convert individualsl with unalienable rights into slave citizens whose sole purpose is to fund the government so the elites can raid said funds. Yeah sure we’re the bad guys alright.

I submit to you Gov. Patrick that passing laws that the apply to some, but not members of the government that created the law nor those who’s job will be to enforce said law is Tyranny and Tyranny has always led to the People becoming ‘ungovernable’.

"Is this guy really that stupid or it is a normal state for Massachusetts politicians?"

Both. He is the Governor of my state, so I know of what I speak.

And stupidity and liberalism isn't limited to this state. The fact that we are even talking about this is proof of that.

It’s not “compromise” unless it yields to the Left.

If Repubs had a bit more grit this would be great political theater. Non-essential people will be furloughed, and life will go on without them.

Then we need to make the point that, if they are non-essential, we don’t need to be raising their budget year after year. Maybe we don’t need that department at all.

I’ve had it with these lefties.

When they call conservatives “radical right-wing,” conservatives should refer to democrats and their policies
as radical left-wing.

When the left calls republicans “extremists,” the GOP should use the same word to describe the rats and their supporters.

Take their words and shove them right back at them and up their butts.

It’s funny that these people actually believe that 40 house members are calling all the shots. What’s even funnier is no republican senator, except Cruz, is relevant.
