Arrest in SUV driver attack by bikers

NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) - Police have arrested one of the bikers involved in the initial incident that lead to the vicious attack of a man driving his family in Manhattan, the NYPD said. Meantime, some people are saying the driver is not the victim because one of the bikers he ran over is in a coma.

Video posted to YouTube from the helmet camera worn by a motorcyclist shows a pack of bikers attacking the driver of an SUV following a fender bender on the West Side Highway on Sunday afternoon.

Christopher Cruz, 28, was charged with reckless endangerment, reckless driving, endangering the welfare of a child and menacing. He was not injured in the accident.

The driver of the black Range Rover -- Alexian Lien, 33 -- was with his wife and young child inside when he struck a motorcycle that was in front of his car, police said. In the video, Lien is seen stopping the SUV and then speeding away and striking three motorcycles when the group began to damage his SUV.

“Apparently there was a provocation with a cyclist cutting him off and then his bumping the rear tire of the cycle. Who knows for sure all the details.”

As I understand it the bikes towards the rear box out other drivers to allow the ones up front to have open road for stunts & speeding (without cars in the roadway).

I have no horse in this race, but if this happened at a traffic light in the Bronx with 50 squeegee monkeys trying to pull this guy and his family out of the SUV then everyone would support him running over all 50 of them.

I’ll never understand the lack of understanding of basic physics by some motorcyclists; these guys apparently thought they were dealing with a biscuit-head. I guess they all learned something...

Had there been a large truck in front of them he could have shoved them up a semi-colon. ;^)

lol. Bike should have been splattered all over Manhattan.

I hate riding in cities to begin with. Next time I go through a city, most people will think I am one of THOSE lunatics.

For non-rice burners, most bikers I see in NY/NJ metro area are fine. Most drivers are fine in general, though many clueless. It's always just a few that are wackos, though since it's maybe 10%, you see one every 10 cars and it seems like a lot. Just avoid rush hour, too many people try to drive like a nut to shorten the trip.

I agree. I don’t mean to criticize the poor guy, he probably never imagined he’d be in a situation like that, but IMO getting off of the freeway was a tactical error. On the freeway he could have kept up good speed, not gotten boxed in and had room to keep on battering bikes.

I read today that some bikers get in front of a car to slow it down so all the others can catch up and they can stay together.

I only read it-—don’t know how accurate it is.

Odd . . . We’ve never had any incidents like this here in TN since at least 1995, about when shall issue CCW was adopted. Of course, that’s a mere irrelevant “conincidence.” Duh, wonder why the “Reverends” Al and JJ so hate shall issue CCW. Naturally, it couldn’t that they support and encourage these criminal subhumans.

Back in the ‘80’s we started having freeway shootings, copycat of LA at the time. It stopped instantly when people started shooting back, and they were better marksmen. Bad guy shoots out a motorist’s window, motorist shoots out a bad guy.

It was after that we started “shall issue.” Before then, it was open-carry no permit so it was easy to be armed in a car.

I watched the video twice. We disagree. If the guy was afraid of bikers, why not pull over to let them pass instead of traveling in their group?

There are none so blind as those who will not see. And you failed twice.

Perfect!

Of course this is NYC where the ‘authorities’ don’t allow people to have those evil guns. This incident reinforces the saying about cops being minutes away when seconds count. This assault was a continuing battle lasting many blocks and not one of the city’s finest is anywhere to be found.

Something similar happened in Houston some ten years ago.

All went well during the ensuing argument until the irate biker broke the car’s window trying to get to the driver.

It was then, and only then, that he was met by a 9mm JHP.

Yeah, that was peculiar considering there was a high-speed freeway stretch of the chase. But I’m not convinced the bikers were all black. Why? Where’s Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson speechifying to get this guy arrested in the Hospital? “He PROFILED those boys and ran them over! Like DOGS!” I’m not seeing it, so the gang must be a bunch of white guys.

Mr. Lien does not need a CHL in NYC.

Bloomberg will protect him from all evil.

I call it the “Reginald Denny maneuver”. I swore if I ever found myself in a riot type situation where thugs are swarming my car, I would have no issue with flooring it and making a path to safety.
