Cracks emerge in House GOP on shutdown strategy
The Hill ^ | 1 October 2013 | Bob Cusack

Cracks are starting to emerge among House Republicans on their government funding strategy.

A handful of Republicans in the lower chamber on Tuesday embraced a “clean” continuing resolution (CR): Reps. Pat Meehan (Pa.), Jon Runyan (N.J.), Scott Rigell (Va.), Mike Fitzpatrick (Pa.) and Frank Wolf (Va.).

They joined Rep. Charlie Dent (R-Pa.) and GOP New York Reps. Pete King and Michael Grimm, who endorsed a clean CR earlier this week. A "clean" bill would not include provisions to delay or defund ObamaCare, and is supported by the White House and Senate Democrats.

In a Tweet, Meehan stated, “I came to DC to fix gov't, not shut it down. It’s time for House to vote for a clean, short-term funding bill to bring Senate to the table.”

In the end, this will all be for nothing. The republicans will cave, give the dims what they want, watch the Dims celebrate victory, we get full Obamacare which destroys health care in America, America becomes a total communist state, with dictator Obama in charge. America is done folks. There is no hope of it ever coming back. The America fought for, served in the Army for, spilled my blood on the ground for in combat, loved, honored, and adored is dead. Gone with the wind. Never to come back.

The plan is not to delay or shutdown but to regain power over the purse which is rightfully and constitutionally the power of the House of Representatives.

Another battle is approaching and that is the battle of the debt ceiling. And in this battle the crucial part is to pay the interest on the national debt, the ‘interest payment’ involving the full faith and credit of the USA. Obama will receive pressure internationally to make these payments and he will need funds to do it. The liberal media will of course pressure the House and try to blame them for risking default. But the international creditors will not bother to pressure the 435 members of the House, they will go and point their fingers at Obama.

If Obama does not sign a CR that pays the ‘interest payment’, he will be blamed as the first American President to default on American debt, and the blame will come from the international creditors.

I don't have a government plan. Lots of folks don't have a government plan and don't want Obamacare.

What you are advocating is abandoning conservative positions based on what you think you need.

You should go to DU.

We normally agree, but support for Obamacare is fighting words.

Near zotworthy, in fact.

Just so you know how serious I am, I just sent Frank Wolf a request for a refund of all my campaign contributions from 1999-2011. I gave that yellow-bellied SOB I heck of a lot of money, it turns out.

Shutting down Parks and Monuments is a personal thing to visitors. Hope they get flaming angry. No reason anyone can’t visit any of the Memorials at any time.

I don’t think its all that great. The hospital I work in has a hiring freeze in place because of concerns they have over this plan.

I realize that.

I am a FReeper. I hold many, many conservative views. I have lived and worked in America and elsewhere, and have become far more pro-American in my views during the last 15 years.

I was among one of the early supporters of Sarah Palin.

I support Ted Cruz.

But I do NOT SUPPORT our current system of overcharging everyone for healthcare.

Our healthcare system is broken.

Fix it. Now.

The most Odious thing is that the government now, apparently, has the right to force you to buy something. I don’t know why people are arguing around the edges of this thing. It should be argued on that fact alone. The government can’t force you to buy a product. That should be rule number one in a Capitalist society. It just became clear to me yesterday that the government is creating a market place for healthcare that everyone has to join. Go to the website, buy this product or get fined. Stop arguing on the edges. I for one don’t get if it’s the best thing mankind has ever devised. As long as I am being forced to buy it the idea should be scraped, deemed unconstitutional. If a product is good it should survive on its own merits!

So not only will they get criticized for “shutting down the government”, they will get criticized for doing so for no reason.

Um sorry to burst your bubble but NeroCare is the Largest job killing bill known in the history of America. Small Businesses are the engine that runs Industry in this country now. They employ and create the Majority of Americans now working. REQUIRING them to provide health Insurance to employees and at a specific coverage level has cost thousands their jobs and has forced Businesses to scale back to having less than the 50 employee threshold. If you support NeroCare you are NOT advocating for Industry. NeroCare killed it.

Our healthcare system is broken.

It was fine until the government got involved. They broke it years ago.

Looking to them to 'fix' it is counterintuitive.

Funny how I am paying 300% more for healthcare now than I did in 2012, and I have already been told I will pay 100% next year than I did this year. I am not talking nickels and times. I am talking high four figures.

And yes, I have private insurance through my employer. It was just fine before the Obamacare mandates started kicking in. Sooner or later my company will pull the plug and dump as all on the exchanges where we will be able to pay even more for less coverage, and eventually be transitioned to a worthless government plan, because there will be no private insurers left standing.

I would walk a mile on broken glass to return to our current (actually former) system.

am advocating for American medicine. Mine is private, but if I lose my job I want a back-up.

You may have another view. I expect most people on this site are in agreement with you, though I also believe most of those people have a government plan.

I do not, that is the difference.

I am quite conservative.

BZZZZZZZZZZZ Sorry Contestant WRONG ANSWER.

You are not Conservative if you think you should have a back up insurance plan PAID for by others if you loose your private policy. Which is what NERO CARE is. Free healthcare for those that have income under a certain level paid for by the premiums paid for by others thru exchanges.
