If BP was told to stand down in my area, they are not listening. They have been pretty busy here the last few days and were indeed busy today already chasing smugglers. I have not seen the BP helicopter the last few days when I usually see it every day but not sure that is related.
No surprise. Beginning with the Bush admin, the border has been a joke.
Essential people are working and being told they will be paid at some point.
Non-essential people were sent home- presumably without pay, though they may be paid later if they are salaried employees- that depends on what is put in the CR/budget whenever one is agreed on.

Not sure why he would make a statement that is not true. I imagine like most things there is some truth to it; BP in my area seem like business as usual, chasing smugglers like every other day. Some support may not be available to them- I have not seen any helicopters up but don’t know if that is part of this. Stand down may not be exactly what they were told- I spoke to some BP yesterday and all they said they have been told is go to work and they would get paid at some point, their pay may not be on schedule.
That explains a lot.

I report Agents are excepted and still report to work, don’t get paid, and paid leave is cancelled and there is no stand-down order on the border.
Their might be an Agent or two that is doing the union-work-slow-down thing, but not many.
From NBPC website: “We want to clarify a few things with the looming shut down. 1. Border Patrol agents are required to report for duty. We are “exempt” from furlough, meaning that unlike many other government employees who don’t actually report to work, we will report for work. 2. We will not be paid until a funding mechanism. . .”
So, Agents still go to work.

I find no comment from Shawn regarding a stand-down order. . .and my son (just talked with him moments ago to make sure I have the facts correct), verifies no stand-down order. Cheers.

This may be a very old "claim"; seem to recall such several months ago. Based on what you are saying, supported by credible sources, this does not appear to be the result of the current "shutdown".

Just tripped down I-35 enroute to Laredo. Do it several times a week. Northbound checkpoint is operating as usual and I spotted numerous agents all along the way from San Antonio to Laredo

So let me understand things. With the government shutdown, the Border Patrol won’t put up barriers to foreigners, but the Park Service will put up barriers to U.S. citizens. OK. Got it.
