Just a note... I’ll miss you all next Friday, but will be posting again on this thread a week from next Friday. Next Friday is our 35th wedding anniversary; so celebration is in the works.

In the meantime, stay safe, stay alert and trust your instincts.

God bless you.

Two other sonatas form the basis of Beethoven’s Opus 31. The second is the Piano Sonata in D minor, Op. 31/2, the Tempest Sonata. The first movement is in 2/2 and is marked allegro with interludes of largo, “quick” interspersed by “very, very slow.” Watch the right-over-left crossovers! He has only one subject in this exposition, and it leads into a development that is short and not so sweet, featuring a lot of crossovers. He recaps with his one subject and ends it quietly.

The second movement is in 3/4, B-flat, and is marked adagio, “at rest”. This movement has a hint of bel canto opera. He adds drum roll figures in the left and then the right hands. It has an air of improvisation.

The finale in D minor, 3/8 and marked allegretto is the heart of the sonata and the movement from which it gets its name. Having had a sonata movement at the beginning with only one subject, Lou writes a movement in full sonata format.
At 20:43, he begins his development and concentrates only on the first subject.
At 22:26, he recaps and brings his second subject back in D minor, which is what you would expect. He builds his coda from the first subject and ends quietly.

Beethoven: Piano Sonata in D minor, Op. 31/2

Freep mail me to be on or off the Daily Bread ping list

The Value Of One

October 5, 2013

Only hours before Kim Haskins’ high school graduation, an auto accident took the life of her father and left Kim and her mother hospitalized. The next day, Joe Garrett, Kim’s high school principal, visited her at the hospital and said they wanted to do something special for her at the school. The Gazette (Colorado Springs) article by James Drew described the outpouring of love and support as the teachers, administrators, and classmates—deeply touched by Kim’s loss—filled the high school auditorium a few days later at a graduation ceremony just for her.

Principal Garrett said, “We talk a lot in education about no child left behind. In the military, they talk about no soldier left behind. Today, this is about no graduate left behind.”

Jesus underscored the importance of every person to God with three stories about something lost—a sheep, a coin, and a son (Luke 15). In each story, a person has lost something of great value. When it is found, friends and neighbors are called to celebrate and rejoice together.

The point is clear: We are all of great value to God, who offers us forgiveness and new life through Christ. And He faithfully pursues us with His love and grace. There is great joy in heaven over one sinner who repents (v.7).

I was lost but Jesus found me—
Found the sheep that went astray,
Threw His loving arms around me,
Drew me back into His way. —Rowley
Our value is measured by what God has done for us.

Read: Luke 15:1-10

What man . . . having a hundred sheep, if he loses one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness, and go after the one which is lost? —Luke 15:4
Bible in a Year:
Isaiah 23-25; Philippians 1

Ah, the wheels grind slowly but we're almost there. I'm polishing up my interview technique now:

Interviewer: Well, Mr. Drill, it's a great book - I thought page 108 was especially brilliant. Which of you wrote it?
BtD: Why, myself, of course.

Or it can go the other way:

Interviewer: Well, Mr. Drill, it would be an OK book except for the garbage on page 108 - illiterate, clumsy, and factually inaccurate. Which of you wrote it?
BtD: Why, my co-author, of course.

Yeah, that'll work.

Aloha Night Owl! ((HUGS))

Some plovers have already arrived; heard them the other morning. Don't think they trust the weather reports any more than I do.....or maybe they are just cashing in on their frequent flier miles before beach closures.

Hoping you are doing well too in these interesting times.
