Lake Mead property owners forced out until shutdown ends
KNTV ^ | 10/5/13 | Jacqui Heinrich

Posted on 10/05/2013 6:29:29 PM PDT by Lacey

The government shutdown is being felt close to home for some locals. They say they're being forced out of private homes on Lake Mead because they sit on federal land.

Joyce Spencer is 77-years-old and her husband Ralph is 80. They've been spending most of their time in the family ice cream store since going home isn't an option.

The Spencers never expected to be forced out of their Lake Mead home, which they've owned since the 70s, but on Thursday, a park ranger said they had 24 hours to get out.

"I had to go to town today and buy Ralph undershirts and jeans because I forgot his pants," Joyce Spencer told Action News.

The Stewart's Point home sits on federal land, so even though the Spencers own their cabin outright, they're not allowed in until the government reopens.

Park officials said property owners can visit only to retrieve belongings; they sent Action News a statement which reads in part, "Unfortunately overnight stays are not permitted until a budget is passed and the park can reopen." Joyce Spencer said she's alright in the meantime, staying with nearby family, but the move was a lot to handle as a senior citizen.

"I had to be sure and get his walker and his scooter that he has to go in," Spencer said. "We're not hurt in any way except it might cost me if I have to go buy more pants."

The Lake Mead properties are considered vacation homes; one of the lease requirements to own a plot is people must have an alternative residence.

Regardless, the Spencers said it's their property and they should be allowed in, shutdown or not.

Why of course not.

Just curious has the shutdown also shut the Federal courts?

They have no enforcement powers, do they?

If I had my way, the UN would be kicked out of NYC so fast their heads would still be spinning a week later.

I see it can go either way at this point. I do not think bozo is the anti-christ, but he may be assisting not fully realizing who he is aiding.

Israel is my timepiece and have not felt this way since I visited there in July 2001 prior to 9/11.

Heck of a spiritual awaking for me! Suddenly I understood things that eluded me in the past.

The state land around me has a lot of private “inholdings” as we call them.

Not sure, but they are gobbling up land for conservation trusts and byways all over the east coast from Florida on up.

While most military facilities are owned by the government, very few are actually on federal land. Most are on State land. If those entrusted to protect those facilities fail to respect State Law, the states may interject and arrest those attempting to relocate based upon federal authority.

Well this is a pouring out of the Holy Spirit. I thought for the longest time that it was just my own set of blessings and hey, that’s where I got in my spiritual life (with requisite thanks of course to the Lord). But I wonder if I — we in fact — now see the proverbial thousands who “have not bowed down to Baal”? (In real life, we all did. But we were forgiven.)

“Gilligan, a former congressman, rode to the governor’s office in 1970 on the wings of a Republican scandal but narrowly lost to Republican James A. Rhodes four years later, partly because of a backlash from the income tax. Many voters also resented that Gilligan closed the state parks in the fall of 1971, hoping to pressure lawmakers to pass the tax.”

The father of Kathleen Sebelius and former Ohio governor.

Watch for Americans resigning from “law enforcement” rather than fight their countrymen. You know it’s happening. The LE who remain are not our countrymen.

The low info libs on my FB list are convinced this is all the republicans fault.

Did anything like this happen during any previous shutdowns?

Memorials? Mt. Rushmore?

They honestly think O has nothing to do with any of this.

Can you imagine any of this crap going on with Reagan around?

Heck! even Carter wouldn’t have allowed it!

Maybe I and my neighbors will be evicted.

I doubt it. Most historic places are private property. People generally want historic status to save $ on property taxes.

The anti-Christ is a phony savior. Barack Obama is still pretty weak at this. I think there will be more appearances as Satan hones his act in that department. This is an early dress rehearsal, I think. We might see a shut down Internet in a future iteration. Let’s use the Internet while we can.

And/or, police chiefs and sheriffs refusing to deploy on such missions... even over-eager SWAT teams may find some things quintessentially disgusting enough to refuse.

It wasn’t historic when I moved here and my taxes have gone up year after year. Never heard low taxes was a reason.

Go ahead and keep puncturing their ignorance with facts (be sure they ARE facts). The fog will clear for some.

The resident evil that lies within the U.S. Park Service is nothing new. They are a sleazy bunch and one of the reasons that I’ve rarely visited a National Park in years.

Years ago, late 80s or early 90s, the Park Service was trying to get permission, as an entity, to unilaterally seize and incorporate any land bordering a national park as they deemed fit. See how that works? They seize Bud’s ranch next door and then ouila, Jim’s ranch is now bordering Park land. Wash and re-rinse. Land owners have been fighting the bastards for years.

And to think this piece of crap was elected twice. Since the government has been shut down 17 times I wonder if thi had happened before.
