Turkey has begun building a two-metre high wall along its border with Syria in an attempt to stem border security and smuggling problems.

The move comes as the United Nations forecast that another two million refugees will flee the Syrian conflict in 2014.

Turkey is sheltering around a quarter of the two million people who have already fled Syria's conflict.

Construction workers have begun digging foundations for the wall in Nusaybin, a border district six miles (10 km) north of the Syrian town of Qamishli.

An unnamed government official in the Turkish capital, Ankara, said: "We haven't had border security problems in Nusaybin so far but in that area it's extremely easy for people to cross illegally. It's almost like there is no border."

Can we get some Turkish contractors on the Southern border?

Sure, but as soon as they set foot on our shores the Democrats would give them legal immigrant status, sign them up for 100 welfare programs and help them bring over all their relatives. None of them would show up for a second day of work.

Thanks Pan_Yan.
The move comes as the United Nations forecast that another two million refugees will flee the Syrian conflict in 2014. Turkey is sheltering around [500,000] people who have already fled Syria's conflict... "We haven't had border security problems in Nusaybin so far but in that area it's extremely easy for people to cross illegally. It's almost like there is no border."
Gosh, where have I heard that before?
