– Some Catholic priests under contract or GS (general schedule) to the military are not allowed to offer the Catholic sacraments--including saying Mass, consecrating marriages, or performing baptisms--on military property during the government shutdown, and if they do, even on a volunteer basis, they risk being arrested, according to the general counsel for the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA.

If this is true, and the RC priests refuse to give the sacraments because of a government order then they’re even more culpable than those giving the orders.

The military, their families and retiree veterans, war veterans, who make the effort to get to Mass and to be with their community they depend on, know what’s going on.

Most of them are active at one point or another in the parish councils. The military archdiocese is a diocese with its head in D.C. These people not only serve on appropriations in their jobs and in the parish, but they know where the money comes from. They exact volunteers and priests and staff.

They know how much it costs to unlock the doors of the chapel and have a mass done by all volunteer, including the priest, and distribute wine, and how much petty cash to accept as donated for the Eucharist.

Not much.

They know that it costs the government more to prevent the Mass.

Bad business.

“...Obama has just stretched the envelop a BIT too far!...”

We’ll see.

Nothing surprises me any more.

I know Catholics who go to Mass religiously (no pun intended), get Holy Communion and yet deeply believe that it’s somehow OK to kill an unborn infant, and had NO problem voting for this thug. Or Clinton back in the day, for that matter.

So... nothing surprises me.

We’ll see where the Chaplains’ line is drawn, I suppose. Hopefully, there’s more than a handful of Father Francis Patrick Duffys out there.

They go to Mass, but it takes attempting to live as a Catholic to be in keeping with the Church.

St. Thomas Aquinas said the Mission of the Church is to live out the Bible.

No one who is doing this can be remorselessly involved in abortion in any way, ad that means voting.

That’d be an awesome lesson to all of those Catholics who insist on voting Democrat

They'll still blame the Republicans.

“...No one who is doing this can be remorselessly involved in abortion in any way, ad that means voting...”

We’re on the same page.

I’m not professing to be the Catholic / Christian model of excellence either. I’m a work in progress, and fall miserably short every day. I have multiple conflicts of faith, belief, etc., with things.

But - willful termination of an infant’s life is, and always will be murder to me. And I have ZERO in common with anyone who sees that it’s somehow OK. Yeah - it IS a “choice”; a choice to murder or not to, and that’s the only agreement I have with them.

And it seems to me if folks are going to “talk the talk”, then they need to walk the walk as well.

My problem with the Church is that it’s not - and never has been - addressed from the Pulpit during election time.

Don’t want to hear about “tax exemption status” blah blah, either; you either believe it and lead, or you stand by and let it bleed.

If I remember my history correctly - and I do - the “Black Robe Brigades” were some of the LOUDEST proponents of Liberty and independence from the British Empire. They certainly didn’t worry about tax exemption status.

Arresting a priest giving communion - great optics.

On the left they would call that a "teachable moment." I would just call it 0bama unmasked.

Do it anyway. How would it look if the regime started mass-arresting clergy, especially if they were being arrested for serving our troops?

This is a direct violation of the Constitution - military base or not.

My pocket constitution spells it out very clearly.
