New 'deadline' for fixing Obamacare glitches seen in mid-November

7:44pm EDT

By David Morgan

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. administration has a little over a month to fix the technology problems crippling its online health insurance marketplace, or jeopardize the goal of signing up millions of Americans in time for benefits under President Barack Obama's healthcare law, experts said on Thursday.

Problems with the federal marketplace's entry portal serving 36 states, the website Healthcare.gov, continued for a 10th day on Thursday despite signs of gradual improvement, keeping a brake on the ability of consumers to shop for federally subsidized health coverage.

Poor turnout in enrollment would provide further ammunition for Republican foes of Obamacare, whose efforts to kill the law have culminated in a federal government shutdown that began on October 1, coinciding with the launch of the health insurance exchanges nationwide.

Already on Thursday, Republican lawmakers in Congress launched a new investigation into the technical glitches, sending letters to U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius and two of the website's contractors, asking for details on what is causing the failures and any system changes or testing that had been performed.

So, in four weeks they are going to fix something that they’ve been working on for YEARS????

That is pretty much standard for lots of big projects, at least now they now know many of the places where they screwed up.

There is never time to do it right but there is always time to do it over.

Obamacare won't fail because of the technology, it will fail because people don't want to pay for bad insurance.

Are Obamacare subsidies based on net income or gross income?
If you max out a traditional IRA or 401K, can you bring down your household income to fall under the four times the federal poverty limit threshold?

I’d like to think you were right mike, but the problem
is that it’s out of the “people’s” hands.

As a woman I heard on the radio today said,
“So you mean they are going to tax some of us
and give it to other people who can’t pay their tax?”

I like to think this won’t stand but even I have doubts.

Once again, it’s OK for Bammy to delay KommieKare, but not Congress.

I like to think this won’t stand but even I have doubts.

Remember Obamacare is not healthcare, it is 51 separate insurance exchanges (some state run some federally run) where private insurance companies freely choose to offer insurance to Americans based on federal guidelines. The insurance companies are depending on enough revenue from premiums to be able to pay patient care, they need well people to be able to pay for the treatment of sick people. If young and healthy people do not enroll then the insurance companies will lose money and will not offer coverage next year. Which could kill it

Another wild card is that federally run exchanges may not be able to offer subsidies which would kill Obamacare in those states (36 states).

Great. Millions GONE and we have no web site, no one signed up and no healthcare has even actually been delivered yet.

Where did the money go??

It’s the question we always seem to ask at the end of everything any sort of Democratically driven debacle they ever attempt.

Yet they get a pass ...let’s just try it one more time ...it will REALLY work this time!!

I just literally have no more of my head left to bang against any more walls.

The ACA is dead already. The administration just refuse to call time of death. Here’s why:

1) after 3-4 days of reporting glitches, fact is, that alone will cause most folks to avoid going to the site altogether. Word has it there are only 51-61K signups so far. That about 1% of what’s needed to keep the whole thing running.

2) With word out on the numbers, good luck finding decent American programmers willing to touch that site. Oh, I’m sure some would, in exchange for an ACA opt-out ticket - and lots of cash.

3) With many of the glitches being known publicly, and they still can’t fix them fast enough, it’s only a matter of time before the foreign exploits begin. The added motivation will be all the information Americans are REQUIRED to enter.

side note: As I hear GOP calling for investigations into the bad programming, I don’t hear the call from dems. My guess: the flawed web site is probably the BIG topic in their internals, with some probably saying use that excuse to give the GOP what they want. Problem is: the DNC is broke, and if they give in, they are all but finished.

4) It is/was an absolutely insane concept to require people to go to a web site - period. The entire ACA roll-out was flawed. Where’s the hard copy forms? Media promotion? Talk about your state-sponsored media all you want, but you would have to give them an ‘F’ on their promotion of this. In fact, the first things they had to say was from reporters who couldn’t even sign up.

Take this from a web engineer folks: When it comes to the web, It’s not about dem or gop, left or right. It’s 2013. If the site doesn’t work, customers leave, and they won’t come back, especially with ongoing bad reports. So at this point, maybe not the full ACA, but at least HealthCare.gov is dead for now. Their only hope is to repackage it and introduce it as something different. But if those bottom line premium numbers don’t change, it’ll be doomed to failure again.

I am a good American programmer that left CGI because I refused to deliver this kind of crap just to meet a deadline.

This would normally not be a bad idea, the exception in this case is that there would be more failures working on yet another failed project.

"One said it isn’t even ready for beta... the other said it appeared that it was never even tested."

Then, like all premature ejac er releases of computer programs, this monster will probably still be causing problems for the Rats through the 2014 election.

Only “hundreds” have been able to sign up for a health care plan at the Obamacare websites. The Wall Street Journal reported:

Okay now we will try the landline # 1-800-318-2596 listed above or 1-800-318-2596 = 1-800-FAU-CKYO.
