Senate leaders reached agreement Wednesday to avert a threatened Treasury default and reopen the government after a partial, 16-day shutdown, according to a Republican senator who also said the House might vote first on the plan to speed its approval.

The New York Stock Exchange soared on the news that the threat of default was easing in, rising nearly 200 points by late morning.

"I understand they've come to an agreement but I'm going to let the leader announce that," Sen. Kelly Ayotte, R-N.H........

mccain sounds borderline senile to me with all his verbal stumbling, making it difficult for me to take anything he says seriously since it is not clear to me that he is actually precise in his speech, so sorry i tuned it out...

Senator: Deal to avoid default and open government

Liars lying.

The government is 83% open.

There are enough tax receipts to pay the debt and avoid a default even without a deal.

We wouldn't have gotten even this far without Cruz. Everyone was set for a roll-over in September.

Are we really surprised?....now we get to suffer them attempting to scuttle obamacare down the road....will they? Doubtful except possibly for another show such as we just saw.

Sooner or later they’ll shove Soviet Union style health care on us and then legalize tens of millions of illegal aliens....

And continue to leave the borders wide open.

It’s far too late to fix this gargantuan corrupt government traditional means.

"Of all the damage to be done politically here, one of the greatest concerns I have is that somehow John Boehner gets compromised," said Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., a former House member and a Boehner supporter.

Yeah, some supporter. Linda Grahamnesty, jock strap.

I would opine too comfortable. Our gastanks are full. Our stomachs are full. we have all the entrainment we can absorb. there are plenty of sex and drugs and the masters will ensure that the slaves continue their labor to provide these to the peasants. If you want to get a mental picture of how things actually are, get a mental picture of animals being fattened to butcher. they are kept calm and well fed in a small enclosure to prevent them from running any fat off. Until slaughter day. That is us as a nation.

Now we know who stood for liberty and who sold out. This entire episode has flushed out all the pretenders and the “conservative” intelligentsia.

omg sen collins now going over each name of her 14 member committee and lauding each one, including mccain.

it sounds like they are just all indulging in self congratulations, my guess would be for the sake of the media.

they are downplaying specifics so it is really unsettling to listening to all this.

“....plan developed by 14 senators to avoid default”....

Well that’s what McCain referenced when he spoke a few moments ago...he mentioned “His 7 collegues” then backtracked and stumbled all over his mouth!.......so that would be 7 Senators and 7 republicans worked what we’re going to see.

Great....more selective people running this show as usual!

There’s more than one way to be rid of mediocrity (or, and this is actually preferable, force it to improve).

There is no force that would turn establishment Republicans into members of an effective opposition. Sometimes, the only way to improve a team is to get rid of mediocrity, accept short term losses, and build again. The Republican party will never be improved while hanging onto empty "R" seats. If they haven't done so in the last 5 years, they never will. That was Boswell's point, and that is even more true here.

Establishment Republicans won't change, and are incompatible with effective opposition. They have to go, even at the expense of (a misleading) R/D split in the senate and the house. I would be much more willing to have faith in the tooth fairy than I would to have faith in the capacity of the McCains of the world to change for the better.

A lot of people see that. You know how you stop that? Win elections. Until this fiasco we had a better then 50% chance on winning senate keeping house ....And that old hag Hillary is entirely beatable. To add to it all Obamacare was DOA with it’s disaster roll out so once again why is this a good strategy?

Obamacare is not DOA. Millions are being assaulted by it’s massive premium increases today. You are great at criticizing conservatives who stood and fought obamacare.

But what is your plan? Is it the McConnell preemptive surrender plan? The Boehner surrender now and I promise we’ll really fight next time plan?

The fact is the rubber stamp 99% of what the Dems want and tip toe plan is a LOSER? We tried that in 2012. It doesn’t work. Stop advocating it.

True but he does have a history of letting the cat peek out of the bag and then backtracks as he did today...

So who are the 14 who apparently worked on this? Of which McCain referenced himself a few moments ago as being part of?

What’s everybody celebrating?

Under the agreement, the government would be funded through Jan. 15, and the debt ceiling would be raised until Feb. 7.
