Was the Point Republicans Made in the Shutdown Worth the Price?
Wall Street Journal ^ | October 16, 2013 | Gerald F. Seib

Posted on 10/17/2013 2:47:59 AM PDT by lbryce

The Republican Party's tea-party adherents believe they made an important point by setting in motion the events that led to this month's government shutdown, ill-fated though that shutdown might have been.

The question they and the rest of their party now are left to ponder is this: Was the price paid worth the point made? That question, in fact, now lies at the heart of what figures to be a full-fledged struggle over the soul of the party, and over who really leads it.

"Sounds like a question only a Democrat would ask. If what you're doing is the morally upright thing there's never any need to ask such a dumb*ss question."

Agreed. The stupid RINOS that look at the polls will feel like they lost.

People got to see the true petulant Obama

Thats the point, even tho conservatives have always known it. Alot of Democrats got their eyes opened by the way the Democrats handled the shutdown and the non-leading of the POS in the White House. Not all Democrats are marching in lockstep with the party first mantra.

Now the full media light can move to the trainwreck known as Obamacare.

The House Republicans tried to save our nation.Their effort will be remembered in the future.

Oh, so when the GOPe foist another rino up for prez you're gonna remember how house repubs caused a meaningless shutdown only allowed to last two weeks accomplishing absolutely nothing!?

When are people gonna wake up? Republicans are useless. They are run by rino's. Nothing is going to change until that changes.

The republican party could not even make the case that congress should not be exempt from ObamaRinoCare. Therefore, there is no republican party. It’s a dead party.

Definitely reminds me of a relevant quote - "Stand up for what you believe in even if it means standing alone." - don't know who originally said it, just have seen it floating around from time to time.

I like to think in military metaphors. There are losses that set the stage for greater victories by their courage, persistence, and by the losses---buth real and psychological---on the enemy.

Think Alamo (making San Jacinto possible), Isandlwana (making both Rorke's Drift and Ulundi possible), and Thermoalae (making Platea possible). Often the longer run (or even shorter run) results are hard to predict.

The shutdown revealed Obama’s true colors. He is vindictive, small minded, anti-Christian, and anti-American.

I agree. Any veterans who are Democrats have probably had their eyes opened to the anti-Americanism of this administration and the party that backs him. Likewise any rank-and-file Dems with seriously I’ll children whose opportunities for clinical trials were spiked by Harry Reid and company. Such things are not insignificant as the next election nears.

Yes, it showed that there are some men and women of principle representing us.

And the rest are RATS and RAT-Lite (GOP).

I am finally convinced that it is time for a third party. The GOP is going the way of the Whigs.

The point the GOP was trying to make is not as important as the fact that they went into this fight with the Democrats without the will to win it.

Ted Cruz and few other worthy souls made a point. “Republicans” didn’t make any point at all.

If obamacare is a success, it was not worth it.

However, based on that above statement I think it was well worth it. The next few months are going to be very interesting on the obamacare front.

Yesterday I picked up my first pistol and my first “big” rifle (Mossberg 30-06 with “plastic” stock and a nice scope).

It is about picking up the pieces and surviving to that point.

It was worth every penny. Last night, Rep. Renee Elmers was on FOX distancing herself from the Tea Party and any real support she can count on in North Carolina’s 2nd District. We put her in office, we can put someone else in next November.

I concur!

Idiot Republicans!

Do they EVER see democrats "reaching across the aisle" to THEM?
