Bring American jobs back now. Protect them, with some sort of American-centric taxes on foreign goods. High enough to start to rebuild America.

Yeah, because Smoot Hawley worked so well.

All we need is a protectionist trade war now. That'll really bring back jobs and make life better for the American people.

Maybe we should bring back wage and price controls too.

Smoot Hawley was in a time when America exported a great deal of America goods to other countries.

The opposite is now the case.

The opposite tact, is now called for.

Just saying.

Pretty shocking to find a freeper stupid enough to think that Obamacare might be a good thing! I wonnder if he/she looked at the deductibles and co-pays of the plans in the exchanges...? A portion of the premiums can be subsidized, however, the co-pays and deductibles are all on you. The insurance is unaffordable even if you were to subsidize the entire amount of the premium....

What an idiot.

Bring back American jobs first.

The GOP did nothing to improve our insurance.

I do not have a government plan. I rely on one employer to cover me, and jobs are getting hard to find if that goes south.

So yes, I am on balance in favor of Obamacare. That is why I wish Ted Cruz would find another topic to run on.

He got lots of publicity on this one, but frankly I believe there are a lot of solidly Republican people who just do want a fall-back plan, just in case.

I support Obamacare. I am not enthused about it, but I have seen nothing from the GOP to compete.

There is by the way a Republican plan. In the House.

It’s just bottled up there, because the GOP has not passed it.

Just saying.

If you think that Obama care is insurance then you need to go over to the Heritage Foundation’s website and park yourself there AND read the damn bill.

"So yes, I am on balance in favor of Obamacare"

"I support Obamacare."

A couple of things here.

I am still new, so I don't make a habit of 1) pinging the owner of this forum nor 2) accusing people of being trolls when they have been here longer than I have. But this goes beyond the pale, and warrants both, I think.

You're a co-culprit in the destruction of this nation. I've seen KOS kids say they post on Free Republic all the time, and I'm not sure you aren't one.

So let me understand. Protective tariffs mean that all the stuff we do import will become prohibitively expensive, artificially raising the cost of goods for American consumers and businesses.

And the exports we do have will dry up because of retaliatory tariffs imposed by foreign governments, thereby reducing revenues for American companies that sell abroad.

I admit that I’m not a finance guy. But what you propose does seems like it will cause far more damage to what’s left of the American economy than it would cure.

That, on top of the government raising the cost of labor with Obamacare, really seems like a sure recipe for disaster.

I just think we have outsourced far too many American jobs.

Until we bring back American jobs, then I want a back-up plan, and frankly Obamacare seems to be about all that’s out there.

How about it GOP?

Bring back American jobs.

I strongly disagree with you.

Bring back American jobs. Then we can argue this other stuff.

I am tired of shipping the jobs of working Americans overseas and having them laid off.

I am not a troll.

How would you fix the problem of jobs being shipped overseas?

What I am leaning toward, is some national tax on imports.

So that American production is treated equally.

This will also incidentally, provide an income stream for paying our government. We are 17 trillion dollars in debt.

That is just a proposal mind you, I am completely open to other ideas.

You are a troll.

I would think that anyone that announces their support for a communist program that will allow the federal government to take over 1/6th of the American economy should the zotted from free republic. You have announced to every single fellow freeper that you are their enemy.

Plan to bring back American jobs:

1) Spam every thread with a hysterical, yet vaguely incoherent, spiel saying “bring back American jobs” several times, while interjecting the word “NOW!” liberally

2) Choose the least relevant threads on which to post this spiel

3) Repeat spiel many times during the thread, oblivious to the actual subject matter being discussed. Any response is to be answered with a variation of said spiel.

4) Repeat steps 1-3 several times per day.

5) Never actually post any actual plan, nor any acknowledgement that the issue is even remotely complex. Remember, all it takes is a politician willing to travel overseas, wrangle up the wayward jobs, and escort them home.

No I am not.

I am on the opposite side of this issue from most FReepers and I held most of my complaints while it was being debated.

But I am not a troll.
