No one would confuse Terry McAuliffe with a policy wonk. The Democratic gubernatorial nominee in Virginia is more likely to be found slapping backs than cracking books. He has ascended in the political world through prodigious fundraising, not breakthrough thinking. All of which makes it even more telling that in his race against Republican Ken Cuccinelli, McAuliffe has almost completely embraced President Obamas agenda on social issues and the environment.
Virginia Democrats historically have sought a cautious middle ground on such questions, largely in hope of holding culturally conservative blue-collar, evangelical, and rural white voters long considered indispensable to statewide success. But McAuliffe has repeatedly adopted liberal social positions that ensure repeated conflicts with those voterswhile providing fuel to energize the Democrats new coalition of the ascendant centered on minorities, the millennial generation, and white-collar white voters, especially women. All of this has established a cavernous contrast with Cuccinelli, an unflinching conservative culture warrior, who has pushed the envelope of opposition to abortion, gay rights, and illegal immigration, as well as Obamas health care and environmental policies.

How to win, do like obama, CHEAT.
Romney’s failed campaign manager and Drudge BFF Matt Rhoades has been in charge of Cuccinelli’s opposition research effort.
That is the way Democrats win. That is Satan’s way. Lieing is all both know.
I don’t think you can categorize Cuccinelli as a RINO
Cheating is hard in Va state elections because they are off year. It takes a LOT of money to pay those precinct captains to stuff the boxes and they won’t give you a freebie.
It’s the Californiaization of Virginia.
Folks move from NY, MD and other leftist states to northern Virginia because jobs are available, taxes are low and the government more limited and better managed.
Then they start to vote in exactly the same class of politician that made their former residence such a hell hole, somehow expecting “this time it will be different.”
In 35 years of living in Fairfax County, I’ve seen the county board of supervisors go from 80% Republican to 80% Democrat, along with all the other countywide elected officials and also seen the same trend in putting leftists into state and federal elected office.
However I am afraid we will never see a Republican get elected to any office in the near future. I hate to be that way and I hope I am wrong, but I see far to many pissed off life long Republicans.
People don't care about primaries, and don't both to vote, so you are stuck with what you get. I had no fewer the ten calls wanting me to be a delegate at the state GOP convention when Ken was nominated, I had to work that night and couldn't attend, but I know all the candidates were looking for delegates. Get involved in the local elections, they are the ones who will be running for state and national elections in the future.
Right on.
Another notch in the Marxist takeover of our nation, only this one is in my home state. Seems these notches are now occurring daily.
Makes me want to throw up.........daily.......
That's what American politics has come down to.
All the surrogate issues - homosexual "marriages", free birth control, abortion - are basically about the same thing - f*** who you want, when, where, and how you want, no rules, and someone else pays the bills.
And that issue is sweeping the field.
The Clinton defenders were right - it IS all about sex.
You have to add as a major factor here the huge mess-ups of our RINO governor, who I spent time with and got to know before his election and initially really liked - thinking he was a true conservative.
His stupid self-interest/greed has not only ruined his political future, he has taken the state down with him.....
BTTT
PRIMARIES ARE WHERE WE WIN OVER THE GOP PARTY
In my district THIRTY people voted in the primaries. (not 30 PERCENT- 30 PEOPLE!!!!)
IF Freepers and if Rush and Hannity would make it a movement, we could oust all incumbents in the primaries
Because GOP incumbents spend the day before the primaries getting their full-time staff out to vote
I worked the polls for the GOP in the primaries, it was sad, very sad. less then 10% turn out. Then I heard nothing but bitching about Romneys selection, but by time the primaries got to VA the only choice was Paul, or Romney. So really it didn't matter. The nation wide primaries should be all on the same day. No reason not to be any more.
The message here is: get in step with Obama or the voting machines will make sure you’re out.
Northern VA is a suburb of DC. Follow the money.
Unfortunately winning in Virginia as a Democrat is not as hard as it used to be.
NJ put up a conservative candidat (Lonegan)in a race against a Democrat rock star (Booker). The Tea Party was very active and the race was fairly close. Obama won by 18 points and Booker won by 9-10. I think Cucinelli has a real shot because Obamacare is imploding so bad the low information voters are starting to wake up to what we knew years ago. You may have a chance
I certainly have no written off any of these races. The polls went a bit south the past two weeks, but that was largely because of the shutdown (we have a large federal employee population).
With the shutdown ended, that should fade. Also, Terri has never been near 50%, it’s just that Ken has sometimes polled in the 30s, and there is a libertarian who polls at 12% even though I’ll be shocked if he ends up with 2%.
Ken has also been tied in the race. And even the Lt. Governor race has had some polls showing the race tied.
It will be interesting to see some of the endorsements over the next two weeks. Terri really isn’t a good candidate, and some liberal newspapers do not like to endorse idiots, even if they are of the same party.
