Democrat Terry McAuliffe has jumped to a 17-point lead over Republican Ken Cuccinelli in the Virginia gubernatorial race following the federal government shutdown that hit Northern Virginia hard and Hillary Clinton’s weekend visit to the state.

The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Virginia Voters finds McAuliffe with 50% support to Cuccinelli’s 33%. Libertarian candidate Robert Sarvis is a distant third with eight percent (8%) of the vote. Three percent (3%) like some other candidate, while five percent (5%) remain undecided.

If you live in VA and get out to where people meet like a bar or coffee shop. What are people talking about anything political, gus.taxes etc ? And is Cucccinelli talking about the same stuff in his ads?

Yes, he is... but it doesn't matter. The cities are teeming with democrat voters and NOVA is overrun with foreigners and parasites from other states. Last time I was in Falls Church (2010), I felt like I was in a foreign country.

Plus... face it.. the concepts of liberty, freedom and self-determination simply don't have the appeal they once did. Americans want to be ruled now. They accept the chains of oppression, so long as they get their guaranteed bowl of rice a day.

Thats a disaster.

A disaster for a RINO or a member of the GOPe.

I'm a registered Conservative. Never was and never will be a republican.

RE I hope they are more recent than the video you posted: April 2011

thats all they needed.

this one had a few more saying it clearly:

Caught On Tape: Republicans Touting Support For Government Shutdown .

So Dems went into this fight with these weapons, where's the clips of Dems calling for a shutdown?

That is why Dems had the edge on a shutdown and why they do in VA now.

This so called "Poll" could also be the standard democrat voter suppression tactic.

"Oh look- the poll says the democrat is 5 million points ahead of the republican. It's over. The democrat has already won. No need for you republican voters to get to the polling place on election day. Stay home. You haven't got a chance to win."

Hope they don't fall for this. It ain't over til it's over. Go vote.

I hope Cuccinelli fights back about this government shut down nonsense. The whole thing was over the massive nightmare of Obamacare and the repubs efforts to stop it . (This was absolutely the right thing to do-even if it didn't work out in the end.) They (R's) sent bill after bill to fund everything but O-care, the democrats insisted on forcing Obamacare on the people.

He should stay with a theme of how out of control the government has become, and the ACA disaster. And don't give up no matter what the "polls" say.

If the dem is 17 points ahead- make 18 times the effort to win.

I was in Manassas recently and chanced into a neighborhood of $300 k homes with nary an American on sight. The Indian lady who greeted me with the word “shalom” must have thought I was a jew. Get ready for all whites to be considered Jewish or tainted by Jewish blood. And keep your powder dry.

That is why Dems had the edge on a shutdown

The reason why the dems have an edge of the government shutdown is because there are RINOs out there such as John McCain ON TAPE claiming that the republicans in the House were responsible for the shutdown. I'm sorry but a republican saying that is far more credible to the low information voter than a democrat claiming that.

It's interesting that you have up you have up to this point excluded those McCain, King, Graham clips only a few days old that are on video and far easier to find on YouTube than it would be to find an April 2008 video claiming that republicans want a shutdown.

Sorry folks. I think this poll is overstating things, but the bitter nugget of truth is contained therein: Ken Cuccinelli is getting shellacked. I see it in the e-mails that the campaign is ending out, as well as in the polls, the number of signs, as well as the commercials. Ken Cuccinelli is being outspent, outgunned, out-communicated, and out-strategized by a left-wing knucklehead who shouldn’t even be in the running, let alone winning it.

And my beloved Virginia is turning bright blue in the process. Ugh.

I’m not one who is throwing in the towel on this race. As I said before, there are A LOT of Obama voters who simply are not going to turn out in this gubernatorial election. Most polls are including these people in their likely voter models.

I just see A LOT of signs for Cuccinelli in my neck of the woods, and hardly any McAuliffe signs. Again, my point is that this election really turns on who heads to the polls.

Put another way, does anyone really think that McAuliffe is going to do better than Obama in Virginia?

Be careful what you wish for. That whole Ft. Sumpter thing? It didn’t work out real well last time.

RE :”The reason why the dems have an edge of the government shutdown is because there are RINOs out there such as John McCain ON TAPE claiming that the republicans in the House were responsible for the shutdown”

And Dems had played these tapes of many of the same Republicans saying they wanted a shutdown.

I bet that if you had tapes of Dems at rallies calling for a shutdown to make Obamacare more socialist for example,, tapes playing on FNC every day during the shutdown, that all the RINOs would have lined up to hold out just like they did to vote against Obamacare in 2010.

Even the weakest RINO cant resist a winning hand.

RINOs get weak kneed, but how many are in solid red districts?

Because I was pointing out something different than you were.

Cobern did it too, said House will fold like a deck of cards.

In the end it was Boehner who made the final call.
