Skip to comments.TV Has to be At Least 42 Percent Gay?

The media elites glowed as they reported a judge had forced New Jersey to become the 14th state to honor and celebrate the "gay marriage" concept. When homosexuals marry in Hoboken, the gay left will be -- should be -- thanking Hollywood.
The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) has issued a new report boasting that "TV hasn't merely reflected the changes in social attitudes; it has also had an important role in bringing them about. Time and again, it's been shown that personally knowing an LGBT person is one of the most influential factors in shifting one's views on LGBT issues, but in the absence of that, many viewers have first gotten to know us as television characters."
If network executives were honest, they'd be slamming this report. If. Haven't they routinely insisted that TV shows have zero effect on the audience? That's their constant mantra when defending sex and violence on TV. They're silent. They know exactly how much they influence.
GLAAD and The Hollywood Reporter commissioned a poll last fall that found in the past 10 years, about three times as many voters have become more supportive of "marriage equality" (31 percent) as more opposed (10 percent). When asked how television has influenced them, 27 percent said "inclusive" TV shows made them more "inclusive," while six percent were more "anti-marriage equality."
As GLAAD put it, "Telling our stories to a mass audience is an important role that television continues to play."
These cultural trend-enforcers went after the movies this summer, complaining that out of the 101 film releases by the major studios in the 2012 calendar year, "only 14 films contained characters identified as lesbian, gay or bisexual. There were no films containing transgender characters."
The silver-screen people need to catch up, they lectured: "But if the major Hollywood studios want a real barometer of how much has changed in our society and how much catching up they have to do, they need only look at what's become one of the greatest threats to their viability: television."
In the 2012-13 TV season, GLAAD found a record number of LGBT characters -- 4.4 percent, or at least double their actual percentage of the population. Fox was honored for having these characters in 42 percent of their programming hours -- although that wasn't enough for "Excellent" status, merely "Good."
There's no wonder that a Gallup poll in 2011 found that on average, American adults estimate that 25 percent of Americans are homosexual. They're getting that crazy idea from TV.
GLAAD is using that example to proselytize the movie studios: "The 'novelty' of these (TV) characters being LGBT has long since passed, and now they're simply unique personalities making up part of unique character ensembles."
That doesn't mean these guardians of inclusion aren't going to keep pressuring TV. The new gay-focused sitcoms "Partners" and "The New Normal" were canceled, alongside other shows with socially liberal agendas. To compensate, GLAAD is even bashing The History Channel for having zero gay characters.
They don't mean in the Civil War documentaries. History executives have loaded their schedule with fictional and "reality TV" shows, and GLAAD is having a tantrum. "The closest the network seemed to get was on the scripted drama 'Vikings,' which depicted one 'straight' Viking couple sexually propositioning a monk they had enslaved." They even expect Middle Ages dramas to have gay scenes or characters in 42 percent of programming hours.
They want children indoctrinated as well. GLAAD is also not shy when it comes to Teen Nick, Cartoon Network and the Disney Channel. Apparently, children also desperately need the propaganda of gay characters in 42 percent of programming hours. They're extremely happy with the liberalism of "ABC Family" and have relayed that Disney Channel executives promised GLAAD they will "introduce LGBT characters in an episode of its original series 'Good Luck Charlie' set to air in 2014, a first for the network." The first of many, they expect.
Here's the catch: Gay characters never face any real opposition to the gay agenda on these so-called "inclusive" programs. There is no measure of Orthodox religious inclusion and no real debates. The victory of the left is assumed without thinking. When a conservative character is created -- like Ellen Barkin's "Nana" in "The New Normal" -- it's a vicious cartoon, the kind that those "against defamation" folks deeply enjoy.
These people are all about tolerance and sensitivity. But if you disagree with them, they will have your head. Ask anyone in Hollywood who's pro-family.
Queers are just so, well queer.
This is why we no longer watch any TV.
There is hardly a prime time TV show that does not in some way pay obligatory homage to queers. Many, many have recurring queer cast members and EVERY one of them gloss over what really happens in the perversion of their bedroom activities.
It spans the realm of the very young, for our children (you see? those kids and young people only ‘like’ each other) to our adults (that really great guy/girl is only looking for true love).
In truth, many of these shows don’t even really need the queer component of their show. One example is “Modern Family”. There is enough really good comedy without having the uncomfortableness of having to dance around two queers with an adopted ‘daughter’. I record this show and like it very much, but for the two queers, it’s fast forward skip through it whenever they are on.
I have privately prayed for more conservative alternatives to Hollywood to rise.
Sherwood Pictures, based in Albany, Georgia, and affiliated with a Baptist church in that city, has produced some fine family friendly movies. They are so small, that they won’t challenge the primacy of the Hollywood cesspool anytime soon. But, I do have my prayers that something will happen.
One of the biggest grossing movies of all time was “The Passion of the Christ”. If making money were the biggest issue in Hollywood, we should be seeing more of those types of films. But, since Hollywood appears to be more about liberal ideology, whether pushing homosexuality or global warming, or other liberal causes, that’s where we are at today.
I was surprised the other day, that the movie “Pretty Woman” was on ABC Family. An allegedly family friendly channel was showing a movie which celebrates prostitution. I think this shows how far we have fallen, when even an allegedly safe channel for your kids will show something like that.
There are plenty of channels that don’t show that kind of crap. You must have had a very limited lineup.
How long before all Clint Eastwood movies are banned?
Only 42%? Is Bozell sure?
“Ask anyone in Hollywood who’s pro-family.”
I will, as soon as I can find my left handed screwdriver so I can fix my Flying Car.
I remember looking forward to the new shows. Now I won’t even bother checking what’s on. My TV is set on one channel (FNC)
Same. Tired of the constant barrage of crusades.
NEARLY all Homosexuals view straights as NOTHING more than ‘breeders’ for future homosexuals. The pole smokers and rug munchers could care less about an open debate. Agenda is to be pushed regardless of opinion and entertainment is directed at the pickle chuggers primary desire-—children.
If you really want to fight back at the gay mafia, boycott many restaurants in urban areas—they are LOADED with Hershey Highway riders who are drug addicts along and disease ridden. I’ve worked with plenty of baloney pony riders in the restaurant business—not bad people but have plenty of mental issues—and it is amazing what they will tell you about the homosexual agenda/lifestyle after consuming a few beers after work. The homo’s are quite candid.
Know your enemy folks.
Seems more like 82% to me.
Breaking Bad didn’t have any gay garbage in it that I can think of, it was the most popular show for its final season. Pretty amazing that there wasn’t an out cry about the lack of the gay.
95%+ of TV is crap anyhow without needing any gay garbage to make it more crappy. It’s like complaining your crap sandwich has flies on it.
Dude...where’s your sense of humor today?
I was making a point...I’m a big fan of MRC’s work...and have been since they first came on the scene.
The “real life” lesbians never look like the hot girls in the above image.
Other than NFL football and documentaries on History Channel the only TV “show” I watch is Duck Dyansty. I don’t think the Robertson’s will be introducing any gay characters in that God fearing show. In fact, I think that accounts for much of the popularity of the show in the first place.
If we ran a campaign as relentless as the homosexual activists, we would win. Money is the reason for this change. Just not watching is not enough. I always let the shows know why I am turning it off. Of course, the sponsors have to know too. We have so much more power collectively.
What if instead of watching the shows we had a thread here on Free Republic that tracked bad television (psychologists, too, report that kids shouldn’t be watching) and its sponsors so we could email them or call.
Even Downton Abbey on PBS. That’s when I stopped watching ... totally. I understand it got worst after that, spreading into other “social issues”.
Liberalism IS a disease.
“They even expect Middle Ages dramas to have gay scenes or characters in 42 percent of programming hours.”
Expect a documentary soon with a poor interpretation falsely casing King Edward II as gay.
At some point, there will be a backlash boycott of all broadcast TV channels that promote this perverted agenda. The cable channels will continue.........
Work with one for six months to a year and "one's views" will likely shift back.
I’m fazing out my cable TV. Once my contract is up it’s gone. I’ve had it.
I make it a point to not watch TV shows with gay characters. I tried Modern Family, gave up on it after five minutes. I thought Brooklyn 99 had potential until the police chief announced he was gay. Up until they introduced Charlie’s lesbian daughter in this season’s premier I had watched every episode of 2 and a half Men. No more.
You mean the Cheneys, Rob Portman, Barry Goldwater, Alan K. Simpson, who else?
The movie studios seem to do a good job of portraying homosexuals sometimes:
Silence of the Lambs
Less than Zero
The Talented Mr. Ripley
All had very believable homosexual characters.
I had digital satellite TV. It just got too expensive and almost every show had some homo reference if not outright queer. Now we use the TV screen connected to the computer to watch FreeRepublic.com almost exclusively.
You forgot Deliverance.
I record Duck Dynasty and watch it the next day. I also record the new shows of Longmire which are on the same channel. Right now there are only repeats
Gays own and run the entire entertainment industry. Opposing views are not allowed.
Clint is pro-gay, so most likely they won't ever be.
Sons of Anarchy now has Boyd Crowder (Justified) playing a transsexual and Tig, one of the bikers, seems to have a crush.
What makes me wanna puke is the actor that plays the tranny on SOA plays Boyd Crowder on Justified, which is one of the few shows that I put on my “Can’t Miss” list.
Now I won’t be able to get the tranny image outta my head when his straight “mean coon ass” character goes against Raylene(the marshall character)
ABC Family channel is anything but family friendly and hasn't been from the get-go. Unfortunately people just think it is and don't bother to check what their kids are watching.
I remember my husband and I went with our 2 sons when they were small in 1966 to a drive in theater in St Augustine, Florida to watch Dracula and the second feature, which was The Walking Dead. Talk about someone scared (me). Since that time I have never watched any Dracula or any other horror movies. Except the comedy with George Hamilton.
What did make my gore come up was Jax and crew “going hero” on the side of the trannie without any character asking “WTF?”
Makes me wish ‘Clay’ Morrow (Ron Perlman)was back as club president
Hollywood has even gone and made Mulan a carpet-licker on Once Upon a Time. Of course they have also made Peter Pan evil.
But I still cheered when the lawyer got eaten.
it is not enough to not watch tv.
ADVERTISERS must pay a financial price.
advertisers have just morphed into push their products to women since women still watch the homosexualized tv.
advertisers need to know it is dangerous financially.
Yeah that was sweet......
Reminds me of the old lawyer joke with the punch line: “A good start”

They could have made Walt JR gay, and have Walt and Skyler completely supporting his gayness.
But that you have good point. I thought they were going to go that way with Gus, but they never came out an explicitly told us the drug lord/murderer was gay.
I recall that Silence of the Lambs caused fights between gay rights people and the broken glass feminists. And that was the early 90s, I imagine it would be cause a real gay uproar today.
