Practicing physicians like orthopedic surgeon Dr. Robert Nirschl, who have watched politicians and health policy for decades, are experiencing first-hand the effects of Obamacare — something Nirschl calls “absolutely insanity.”
“It is in fact socialized medicine, and the other issue is, of course, this is a huge transference of productive wealth,” the Washington, D.C.-area doctor said.
He opposes the law for two primary reasons: 1) Americans are losing the insurance they had before, and 2) doctors must comply with a morass of paperwork requirements that adds no value to the doctor-patient relationship.
“The patient is stuck two ways,” Nirschl said. “Number one, the doctor is forced to do things which have no value to them, and they’re buying or forced to buy insurance, which has no value to them. I mean, this is absolutely insanity.”
Nirschl has written a compelling piece that compares the purchase of health insurance under Obamacare to the purchase of a fastfood hamburger.
Suppose a customer orders a $3 quarter-pounder.
“The clerk says, ‘Well, you’re in luck because the government has just said that you can buy it for $2.50,’” Nirschl said. “‘But, 15 percent of the population basically can’t afford the $2.50, so we need you to contribute ‘the mandatory voluntary contribution’ of $1.00.’”
“‘It’s really popular with the 15 percent group, and so we don’t have as many. So we’re losing money, so we’ve had to decrease the value to an eighth-pounder, from a quarter-pounder, and by the way, you can only have two even though you wanted four, and you can pick it up in three or four days,’” he said.
His analogy, he thinks, can help more people understand what is happening in health policy.
Nirschl was trained at the Mayo Clinic, served in the Navy, taught at Georgetown and has served in a variety of leadership posts for professional medical associations. He has treated prominent sports figures, politicians and others in the Washington area.

Great . .but where was all this outrage from the medical community in 2009/2010?
If anyone should have been screaming loud and clear, it was that. I must not have been paying attention then, because I heard nary a whimper.

Obamacare was never about providing healthcare. It was about citizen enslavement.

And there is one other transference. The power was transferred. Patients used to be consumers, with consumer power over the doctor and an insurance company, (who despite the whining horror stories), had to stay within some limits to keep our business.
Now we are required to do business with the government directed insurance company, and the doctor must absolutely obey the government dictates. The government holds all the ultimate decision making power on medical decisions.
*Dead last* is the patient who is now stripped powerless when he visits the doctor. The doctor does not have to please him, and neither does the insurance company. Both of those however must walk in abject fear of the government. You cannot find another doctor or insurance company and if you could, they follow the same federal rules. And the government would track you to your new doctor.

I would suspect that there are many people who are simply shell shocked. It is just difficult to believe that this is really happening across the United States. It’s like being stuck in quicksand with no visible effective means of escape.

It’s about all kinds of control.
It’s one guy, exacting all of this control on the American people. where are the opposition? Where are our representatives?

Dr. Nirschl must be one of those bad-apple doctors.
Maybe they were screaming but the media would just muzzle them. And more than a majority of people were against it but the bill was imposed on us anyway.
My wife said this mess is like someone baking a batch of cookies and telling you how great they are but for some reason won’t eat any of them themselves. Wonder why?
Only one thing will change what is happening / has happened.
We the people are the only ones who can stop this. We need to shake out of our shell shocked trance and overwhelm the politicians. We should be picketing every rep and senate office across the USA. We should be camped out in their office lobbies Occupy style. Shouting them down at each speaking engagement, town hall or ship christening.
Most were thinking about how much more money they would make and how much less they would have to work to get it.
AMA and AARP had already cashed their checks before the ink was dry on the bill.
