Harkin pushes bill prohibiting workplace discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity

Iowa Senator Tom Harkin, a Democrat, spoke on the Senate floor today urging passage of a bill that would prohibit workplace discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity.

Harkin said a vote in favor of the bill would be positive for both the House and Senate. “I think in the general public we’re probably about as popular as a toothache right now,” Harkin said. “But this week we can show the American people that we can come together and we can lift our eyes above the haze and the smoke, the horizon, and we can make this country a better place for all.”

Harkin is the chair of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee which passed what’s called the “Employment Non-Discrimination Act” in July. “Let’s do this and let’s bring to the American people what they think they have already and what they know they want — which is a society free of discrimination,” Harkin said.

The U.S. Senate is set to vote on the bill tonight. Reports say the bill is not expected to be brought up for a vote in the U.S. House.

Translation: He can see the Senate majority going up in smoke in November 2014, so he wants to get while the getting is good for his favorite groups. How does Iowa send people like this to Washington?

Please add "for a time." The pendulum always swings back, and when it does, the Left always swings FARTHER back.

"How does Iowa send people like this to Washington? "

Eastern Iowa is a strange place, full of former industrial small cities/towns.

Western Iowans are >> better, but of smaller headcount.

There is likely a Minnesota-like farmer-populist cohort in the mix too.

This is a true story as well as a cautionary tale from another plant in our company.

Not too many years ago, one of the male employees decided he was a female. Management was not willing to let him use the female restroom out of fear of what could happen if the ladies rightly complained. Nor could they suggest he couldn't out of fear of what could happen on the legal front.

The "solution" was to convert the visitor's ladies lounge into a private privy for "it."

Then, when there was an occasional female visitor which needed to use the facilities, she was ushered back to the employee restroom since these stupid "rights" did not apply to visitors, only employees.

Consider the inconvenience just to accommodate a single "it" in the plant.

Good old Tom, the administration needs distraction and a change of conversation and he comes up with this. It’s almost like they preplanned it.

According to liberals, no one should ever take offense to freaks and hire them no matter what. So what if some freak male likes to sit in the girl’s bathroom to pee, or rape young boys in the butt, or mutilate himself and have a cutoffadicktomy, or wear women’s clothing, or marry his dog? We’re not to judge, but to accept.

However, liberals DO NOT ACCEPT RELIGION, FAITH, CHRISTIANS, OR ANY RELIGION AT ALL. They do love Muslims because Muslims are violent towards Jews and Christians.

Liberals are violent and must be stopped!

I thought queers, fags, homos, dykes and all other manner of freaks were already “protected”. Dare I ask what else there is?

I wish bonehead would pull a reed on this kind of krap.

I hope a halfway house of transgenders moves right next door to the good Senator.

I wish the same sort of thing would happen with illegals moving next door to Congressmen supporting amnesty.

However, this won’t happen as these “special people” live in gated communities well-protected and shielded from the social ills they encourage with their legislation.

“He can see the Senate majority going up in smoke in November 2014, so he wants to get while the getting is good for his favorite groups.”

The really good news here is that he’s retiring and giving the GOP a seat ( that is if the GOPe doesn’t trash the likely Republican candidate). As for his legislation, my guess is that it’s dead in the House.

Eastern Iowa is more like Illinois. Just look at the Quad Cities Area.

NO! I realize that Heterosexual is a NORMAL sexual orientation and pedophilia is a ABNORMAL mental condition.

You can have YOUR normals and I will keep mine thank you very much. A person would not be reaching to far that by your comment you thought pedophilia should be protected.

So if I get off on wearing women’s clothes, I can wear them to work and they can’t stop me? Does this apply for wearing leather and bondage gear as well? What if I’m a nudist and exhibitionist? If it’s illegal to discriminate against how I’m sexually oriented, then I should be able to go nude or wear bondage gear at work as well as cross-dress. Different strokes for different folks.

No, what he say’s makes sense, one precondition. We will grant full rights of citizenship, however that is only for the first generation after all the current ones (gays) are moved to easter Island.
The children will get all those rights that Harkin suggests and each will get 1 trillion dollars for life.

See, balanced budgets are not hard.

:-)

100% agree. Heterosexuality, and to be more specific, heterosexuality for non-relatives of not totally dissimilar age is the only normal I recognize.
