Look to Cruz, Not to Christie
American Spectator ^ | November 6, 2013 | George Neumayr

Arnold Schwarzenegger won re-election handily in 2006, defeating his hapless opponent Phil Angelides by a 56% to 38.9% margin. Yet this sizable win was a meaningless victory for the GOP. Similarly, Chris Christie’s thumping victory on Tuesday night over an equally forgettable candidate contains almost no national meaning, save that Chris Christie is good for Chris Christie. Like Schwarzenegger, Christie cruised to re-election not as a real Republican but as a preening non-partisan moderate. Like Schwarzenegger, Christie’s popularity hasn’t translated into any support for Republicans in his own legislature.

Which raises the question: How could Christie turn blue states red nationwide if he can’t turn his own legislature red?

The breathless burbling about how Chris Christie’s victory “shows the path forward for the GOP” conveniently ignores his inability to turn New Jersey red for anyone but himself. Before election day, the New Jersey media didn’t see any reason for the Dems to worry about a Christie victory, as they enjoy a 48-32 majority in the Assembly and a 24-16 lead in the state Senate. While these numbers may change, early reports indicate most incumbents will be reelected. The New Jersey media reported that most polls indicate support for Christie won’t help any down-ballot Republicans. In 2009, Christie’s coat-tail effect was negligible too, resulting in only one new Assembly seat for the Republicans.

Like Schwarzenegger, Christie is a useful idiot for the Democrats—a needy, politically correct, ruling-class Republican who is trending liberal on everything from “climate change” to gay marriage to size-of-government issues. Christie loves the liberal limelight—a trait that will only intensify over time. The Democrats know a Trojan Horse when they see one.

Of course, establishment Republicans—the same geniuses who parachuted Schwarzenegger into office to the long-term detriment of their party—will ooh and ahh over Christie’s victory and argue that Tuesday’s results,.....

Put up a candidate who demonstrates that he/she can kick the crap out of Dems and you got someone to beat a GOPe like Christie, otherwise it will just be another circus like 2011 to 2012 was.

We need a true leader who will yell and then slam the enemies faces in the dirt. If people do not learn to play dirty like dims do this republic is lost forever! Cruz, Lee and Vitter need to slam them every day!

The article is meaningless as I would not vote for Christie simply because he is not a conservative.

Let’s not overlook his stand on gun control also. This guy is a dem in GOP clothing.

Cruz and his compatriots should begin making a point of why exactly the shut down the government (actually Obama did): to stop the run away Obamacare which will consume this country if allowed to stand. It was a principled fight, not some anti government rant as O turd portrays it. He needs to beat that point into the ground and into the heads of every “reporter” he addresses. Make O care the central issue, not the government shut down.

Michaek Savage asked a caller last night which he would prefer: a Christie landslide over Hillary or a Cruz defeat. I think he’s already given up on the 2016 election. He had very few negative comments regarding Christie. Not me...NO MORE RINOs!

Yes, why would we want a Republican politician who can win in New Jersey? The real challenge is winning in Texas.

I live in NJ and I can tell you that nothing has changed for the better here! My property taxes are still going up, income taxes are the same, the tolls have gone up 50% and money is still being wasted all over the place!

Christie’s victory speech just rang hollow to me. What has he done to make my family’s life any easier? I don’t feel like anything has changed in that regard. It’s just status quo.

I was thinking to myself that the GOP is grooming this guy to be the next presidential candidate. God help us. He is a RINO through and through. I went to go visit my parents in Union City. Union City is a Democratic stronghold run by a crooked Democrat hack. That Democrat hack happens to be friends with Christie. As a matter of fact, the signs put up by the mayor had Christie’s name on it! I thought I was in bizarro world. A republican governors name right underneath a Democrats name on the same sign! What the hell!

It’s nothing personal against Christie but no thanks!!!

This book that came out last week....pretty casts Christie and his circle of staff members as some circus operation. This would be the last guy that I’d include on some Republican staff or administration....even for head of the National Park Service.

Christie should just switch to being a Democrat.

That’s what he wants to be anyway

Indeed. The horrors of Øbamacare are becoming clear. ALL of the Republicans need to say
"see, that's why we were adamant about the shutdown. It was no stunt. Millions are losing their healthcare coverage, the coverage they were promised they can keep. Come January 1 these people are going to be UNINSURED. They won't be filling their prescriptions; they won't be keeping their appointments. This is a travesty. It's not simply a matter of postponing the penalty. Waiting until 30 Nov it TOO LATE. Millions cannot enroll in 15 days. It is not possible. Delay or repeal the ACA. That is a moral imperative."

That is the message and it requires discipline.

Right. We producers in NJ crank it out so that the 100% Rat voters in Newark, Camden and Trenton can return their Rat enablers to office time and again.

Not to mention size of clothes issues. Let's be clear about this: the minute he (God forbid) gets the Pubbie nomination, the focus will be on his girth, i.e. it's wrong to have a (white) fat guy in the White House. What message does this send to our children?

Mika and all the other nut libs would be on this like a bull dog on rib bones.

The GOP elite tried to start floating Jeb Bush but quickly realized that dog won’t hunt so now they are grooming Crispy to foist off on us in 2016 just like Mitt in 2012.

It is imperative not to allow this to happen again. We cannot let the the GOP leadership pick the candidate in 2016. Cruz and Paul are the only viable choices. Anybody else is going to be same old same old. Might as well just let Hillary win, push us past the tipping point and kickoff the rebellion.

Yup! Exactly. It’s so frustrating.

I don’t know, maybe it would be impossible for anybody to turn this sorry State around. The takers far outnumber the givers. It’s almost insurmountable.
