Democratic candidate John Bohlinger says Harry Reid wants him out

Former Montana Lt. Gov. John Bohlinger just jumped in the Montana Senate race last week – but he says national Democrats are already trying to push him out.

Foremost among them, according to the Democratic candidate? Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.).

“[Reid] said, you know, ‘John, you know, you’re a nice guy, but we’ve chosen Walsh. We’d like you to drop out. We don’t want to have a primary,’” Bohlinger said, according to local news reports. Bohlinger was referring to current Lt. Gov. John Walsh, the preferred choice of the party to run for the seat of retiring Democratic Sen. Max Baucus.

“And I said, ‘Senator, we’re going to have a primary in Montana. And it will be the people of Montana that choose the next Democratic Senatorial candidate,’” Bohlinger added.

Bohlinger said that, at the end of their 10- or 15-minute conversation, Reid wished him good luck and said to call if he ever needed help.

Bohlinger, who served as a Republican under Democratic Gov. Brian Schweitzer but switched parties after he left office in 2012, announced his entry to the race on Tuesday at a Democratic dinner. He spoke to reporters about his bid on Wednesday, according to Montana media reports.

Bohlinger’s move complicates Walsh’s path. The seat will be one of the most fiercely contested of the 2014 cycle. Whoever wins the Democratic nomination is expected to face GOP Rep. Steve Daines, who announced his candidacy last week.

Senate Republicans need to net six seats to regain the majority and see this one as a critical pickup.

"[Reid] said, you know, 'John, you know, you're a nice guy, but we've chosen Walsh..." current Lt. Gov. John Walsh... retiring Democratic Sen. Max Baucus... There's nothing wrong with Reid that a long, painful illness wouldn't fix.

According to item in today’s USA
Today:

Montana legislator is bringing a bill to the State legislature which would REQUIRE the elected members of the Montana Legislature to be evenly divided—half men & half women!!!

Guess your vote won’t count for much up there anymore——

Reid is senile, arrogant and presumptuous. No way to end ANY career.

As for Bohlinger, I have never contributed to a Democrat's campaign in my life.
But I will contribute to his!

Did I mention I can't stand the image or voice of the Senile One?

“You said: The people in the individual states should choose their nominees and then the parties should get behind them.

I say: No, we need to repeal the 17th Amendment and have the State legislatures appoint/elect the Senators as it was intended by the Founding Fathers. Otherwise, what is the point of having the Senate.

The House of Representatives is to represent the people’s interest.

The Senate is to represent the interest of the individual States.”

Well my statement was in the context of how we currently choose senators. I agree with you that the 17th amendment should be repealed. But even if it was, you would still run into the same problem, just in a different electoral context. US Senators and the party committees could still pick a nominee ahead of time and gin up support for that person, put pressure on opponents, etc. My point was that the parties or senators or the senate should not get involved until the people have narrowed the field to two.

I’m not naïve however. Politics has always been a game of influence and leverage. But the idea that Reid called up someone and said we want you to drop out because we’ve already chosen our guy is repugnant to me. It smacks of aristocracy.

Yup, better a small handful of politicians make the choice for us. They are sure to choose “true conservatives®” because they are so conservative themselves and it’s not like they’re prone to corruption and cronyism or anything.

Hmm I think I’m having deja vu. It seems we’ve went over this before. Oh wait, WE DID! It’s only deja vu if it actually HASN’T happened before, my mistake.

Let’s not. Let’s focus on electing the REPUBLICAN in November instead of trying help the DEMOCRAT (a former RINO traitor) who might actually be a stronger general election candidate.

Bohlinger’s trademark disloyalty (he’s a former RINO who “officially” pretended to still be a Republican while serving as a rat Governor’s running mate and LT) in shooting off his mouth has benefited us. Having a rat primary is good, having one with discord sewn in is even better!

The seat is a top target, #3 behind SD and WV. Strong takeover odds, not winning it would be unacceptable.

I hear you but IMO, we have to start getting a little creative in the nomination of BOTH party candidates. You KNOW that dirty tricks have been played on us in order to get the Democrats' choice of the Republican candidate. To this day, I still cannot find many people that voted for McCain in the Republican primaries.

Is that allowed? I thought “permanent” Senators like Rocky had to go from the Capitol bldg direct to the funeral home.
Is he handing over the seat to one of his kids?

I'm not sure about that. That's why I asked the question. His seat would be up for election in 2014.

LOL!!! Didn't know this before, but "Jay" Rockefeller's real name is John D. Rockefeller, IV. He's the only Democrat Rockefeller I've ever heard of.

Of the elected Rockerfellers, he’s the only rat. His wife is the daughter of former IL Israel hating RINO Senator Chuck Percy.

Of course we had the famous RINO NY Governor and VP. And the Arkansas branch, also moderate Republicans. Winthrop Rockefeller, who was Governor, an his son (same first name, called “Win”) who was LT Governor (and died tragically of some blood disease).

Anyway, Jay is is going, yes, I don’t know how you missed it, Eagle. Establishment GOP Congresswoman Shelly Moore Capito is the heavy favorite to take the seat. I rate the chances of a more conservative choice beating her in the primary as low. The rat nominee is almost certain to be Sec of State Natalie Tennant.

Jay’s most politically active kid lives in NY. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Justin_Rockefeller
