After Obama Meeting, Insurers Question Plan’s Workability
The New York Times ^ | November 15, 2013 | Reed Abelson, Susanne Craig and Michael Shear

A day after they were caught off guard by President Obama’s proposal to prevent cancellation of insurance policies for millions of Americans, top executives of some of the biggest insurance companies emerged from a meeting at the White House on Friday, expressing mixed feelings about whether the idea could work in every state.

The hastily called meeting was an attempt by the White House to address the growing frustration of the nation’s insurers over the administration’s fumbling of the health care law. It came just a day after the president announced on television that insurers could now continue coverage for people whose policies were being canceled because they did not meet the new law’s standards.

The cancellations had left the president vulnerable to assertions that he had gone back on an often-repeated promise that consumers could keep their current plans if they were happy with them....

Try to imagine any previous chief executive doing this. Really try.

he was telling them to disobey the law

How does he expect them to act?

did he give it to them in writing? Wouldn’t that be grounds for impeachment? (ordering them to disobey the law and guaranteeing them no consequences? or what)

“Try to imagine any previous chief executive doing this. Really try. “

Really, isn’t this the good ol’ fashioned Fascist economic system in action right here?

Man you hit on the head. Ayn Rand's philosophy has some real holes it (and some good points), but she really excelled at painting an American corporatist dsytopia.

Wait, he made yesterday’s announcement without warning the ones that were going to do all the work and lose money on the deal. Gee, I’m shocked. What an idiot.

If the GOP is smart (they are lousy campaigners) they should make Ads showing real grannies, real cancer patients, real kids with serious diseases, etc being pushed off the cliff by Obamacare.

The Rats made a Ad about Paul Ryan pushing a fake granny off the cliff. Now the Rats are pushing real people off the insurance cliff.

He wasn't some much asking to break the law as he was asking them to be scape goats. There have been a number articles today explaining that the eggs Obama cracked to make his omelette probably can't be put back together.

If it works, Obama would still force people FTP replace there present insurance with High cost Obamacare insurance and get the insurance business to take the fall.

There will no longer be any reason to read ATLAS SHRUGGED. When this is all over the real story line will be epic in itself and overshadow Ayn Rand's vision.

Overshadowed by hubris that even she could not fathom.

“We did everything Obama wanted, and this is the thanks we get,” said one high-ranking official in a state with its own exchange. “I can’t tell you how fed up we are.”

Delightful to read.

You’re correct about Atlas, but think about the fact that Terry Gilliam couldn’t even imagine a level of Government dysfunction THIS bad when coming up with Brazil!

Obama forgot to add in his original statement:

"Once you comply with what I want - turn around, drop trou, and bend over. Don't worry - I'LL drive ... and BTW, YOU have to pay for the Vaseline ..."

Lol. The insurance industry must feel so used. Obama didn’t even stay the whole night. “I have golf in the morning.”

That a chief executive would even consider getting himself into this chaotic mess, much less attempting to "back out" of it after he had forced it on the people gives us an indication of how completely ill-equipped he is for the office of the president.

The insurance executives are quiet about this, unlike the press release of yesterday. The insurance industry is financially covered by the Pathway and don't want to rock the boat. I think that they will go along with this, as best they can. This may involve taking some of the fall. However, I am interested to see how achievable this change seems to be with 'only' a 10% to 15% premium increase. It will sure beat a 200% premium increase for most!

The fly in the ointment is the State Insurance Commissioners. They are not in on the scam. They are just innocent bystanders and are justifiably upset.
