A different take on the ROB FORD scandal.

These thoughts are my own and not necessarily those of Free Republic.

ON ROB FORD

Schadenfreude has never been so delightful.

Talking heads worldwide are obsessed by the admitted illegal activities of a man, in a city, in a country, they didn’t care about yesterday. Someone in the parlor has done some very, very bad things – uttered the word “pu--y” to boot – and the titillating evil of it all is too much to handle. Of course, Justin Trudeau (son of Pierre,) now gunning for Prime Minister, elicited mild yawns and golf applause from Canada’s holier, hempier, and greener than thou upper middle class elite (one does not speak of Canada’s “rich,” and surely not of Canada’s multi-generationally protected rich, Canada is better than that) when he proudly announced he was a drug user. But Rob ford is a different story.

He’s fat. FAT! He’s a “right winger.” He fired a LOT of people in Toronto in order to get the City’s budget back in order, and he’s the kind of guy who enjoys chicken wings and poutine (french fries, curd cheese, and gravy) at the bar more than brie and champagne at the Musee Moderne des Fifis. As he admits sadly under the lights, he’s had a few drinks and gotten behind the wheel a few times in his life. Worst of all, he has deigned to suggest others have, too. What an evil man! After all, I’ve never, ever had a drink or two and gotten behind the wheel. Have you? Good. Me neither. You neither? Good. Nor me. Phew!

But “he associates with prostitutes!” “He told a co-worker he wanted to eat her…” Anything goes in this orgy of attention. Nothing can, or should, stop the press in their destruction of the man.

Does it matter that all of this started when the Toronto Police put almost 20 (TWENTY) officers and detectives on a MARIJUANA charge relating to a “known associate” of Mayor Ford? Nope.

Does it matter that what followed was a wholly inappropriate press conference by the chief of police wherein he said he had seen a certain video depicting certain things his boss had done... While charges could not be laid? While we would never see the video? While even the mayor did not see the video? Nope.

Does it matter that the latest chapter in this debacle stems from a left-leaning Toronto newspaper buying videos - filmed without the mayor's knowledge - merely showing the mayor in a tantrum and cussing?

Have you ever been in a tantrum? Have you cussed?

Me neither. Phew! Guess I am not "on crack."

And the best part is: now that the Canadian mainstream media and political elite have destroyed a man by using the world media against him? They can complain about all the media attention!

If only the average wait time for simple medical procedures wasn’t over EIGHTEEN MONTHS according to Statistics Canada… Maybe folks could get their heads in gear and stop the crucifixion of their “GIT ‘R DONE” mayor. But truly? If they get their wish? He’ll check out...

And give them a chance for some on-camera crocodile tears. “Oh, oh oh… It must have been the ‘crack’ that drove him over the edge! He did smoke crack, you know, this conservative, right wing mayor… And conservative crack-smoking fat conservative fat conservative drunk driver…”

Oh well. At least the six-digit school supervisors will get their jobs back.

And the self-righteous, singularly self-righteous entitlement-lefties in Canada can lick their bloody chops and dream of tomorrow's kill.

Oh for God's sake, Ford destroyed himself.

Agreed, but look at the media's treatment of this affair - US late-night "comedians", the NY Times, CNN .... all drooling over a politician's drug use.

How many stories and jokes did all of these outlets do about a politician who isn't even American? Hundreds, maybe thousands. And how many stories and jokes about a US politician who also did pot & cocaine - Barack Obama? Answer: none.

See the hypocrisy?

From CBC:

“...The man who tried to broker the sale of the video of Toronto Mayor Rob Ford smoking what appears to be crack cocaine has told CBC’s the fifth estate that residents in the Dixon Road neighbourhood in northwest Toronto were approached by individuals who offered a “suitcase of money” for the video (...)

Farah is a well-known community organizer in the Dixon Road neighbourhood, which has a reputation for gun crime and violence....”

” it’s not illegal to use a drug.”

Hate to burst your bubble, but it it is illegal to use illegal drugs. I hope you’re not a lawyer

“That’s the thing: He has done the city so much good it’s “insane!” And there’s the rub.”

If he’d been a lib that continued the status quo toward bankruptcy, nothing would have ever been reported. Not taking up for Ford, but being a fiscal conservative was his biggest mistake

“The US should do a better job of stopping drugs”

“Better job” defined how?

—attempting to reduce supply, putting offenders behind bars for long sentences?

That has been tried for decades, to what end?

Price of pot has increased well beyond inflation, over the past decades.

Higher price makes the business more profitable, encouraging big, violent cartels to control the business.

Some states have decided to alter course with pot, and they should offer a laboratory for what occurs.

Not really. Take my town. Everyone knows where the drug houses are, even the cops, so why haven't they been stopped?

This whole "war on drugs" is not really happening, it all seems to be PR from this level. Cops aren't serious about it, prosecutors aren't serious about it.

Some states have decided to alter course with pot, and they should offer a laboratory for what occurs.

and some states let boys hop in your middle schools girls shower too, doesn't mean we should experiment with it.

"Legalizing it" will be seen by kids as a stamp of approval by the government. Don't pretend otherwise, parents will be left defenseless to argue with it. Libertopians will be overjoyed as parents get removed from their role and kids on drugs become open access to the pervs.

He might be a target because of his right leaning politics, but if so, he gave his detractors plenty of ammunition.

If you have ethics and honor you don’t give a lawbreaker a pass just because you agree with his politics anymore than you trump up charges, or selectively prosecute others just because they are political enemies.

One can of course empathize with the good and righteous citizens of Toronto. Oh the calamity! The sad image of the place, the mockery of two bit T/V late night hosts. Add to that the pumped up condemnation of the august and erudite members of Toronto City Council.

In the meantime cut to the latest news about the awful tragedy in the Philippines and the thousands of lives lost and still more lives ruined. Sort of puts the Toronto episode in perspective, in my humble opinion.

Rob Ford destroyed himself (and continues to do so in his alcoholic stupor)

The irony, leftists hage been encouraging hedonism and now they are acting all taliban like.

As long as Ford is doing his job then his personal life doesn’t matter.

The fact that Ted and Barack got a pass by their supporters doesn’t mean Ford should. It would cheapen the morals of the conservatives, IMO.

See the hypocrisy?

Nope. Ford's alcoholic binges and crack use have happened while he's in office. Whip up some evidence of Obama's current pot and cocaine use and that would no doubt make the headlines.

I wonder if had Ford admitted to allegations leveled against him a year or so ago, instead of lying, how many of these latest revelations would have appeared? The video of wanting to see someone f 'ing dead is way over the top. Fiscally he is terrific, personally, he's a mess.

The issue is racial discrimination.

White politicians are fair game for mockery, while black politicians get a free pass.

Cory Booker, the new US Senator from NJ, owned a crack house. Where’s the Jon Stewart jokes about him?

Kwame Kilpatrick, ex-mayor of Detroit, embezzled and did drugs on the job. Where’s the Jimmy Kimmel jokes about him?

Marion Barry, etc. etc.

Two races, two media standards. Get your head out of the sand.

He is an alcoholic pure and simple. Just because you like his fiscal policies says nothing. He is a loose cannon waiting to explode. To suggest that his ‘personal’ behavior doesn’t count towards his worthiness to be in office is nonsense. Rather like saying about Bill Clinton ‘well it is just about sex so who cares’

Oh, America!

Glorious, righteous America!

200 years of begging for blacks, 7 years of contriving to send back the Jews!

Church-going, butt-blasting, illiterate, wonderful Afghanistan-rescuing America!

I love the United States of America. I love Americans.

I wish you all loved Reagan as much as I do.

Yours is the Last, Best Hope.

But you are always the last to know what asses you are.

You are always the last to know how you are victimized by your own leftist media.

Only one son of a bitch had the balls to declare war on Adolf Hitler in September 1939.

He was a drunk “in office,” and he saved the whole world.

I was just thinking how easy it is to forget about Canada. This Ron Ford scandal really helped to put Canada back on the radar for me.

It shouldn't be that way because where I sit today - and have lived for most of my life - is only a five hour drive to Montreal. Hell, it's probably only a 4 1/2 drive to the Canadian border. Yet I've never been there.

Never been to Canada. Now I've been to Niagara Falls in which I was in position to toss a rock Canada's way (and almost hit it). But that's about as close as I've ever come. Also, I'm sure I've been in Canada's airspace now and again during my plane trips to Chicago or Denver. But never did spend any time at all on Canadian ground.

Now I'm sure Canada is more than just ice hockey players, skunky beer in green bottles and Bob & Doug MacKenzie. But I can't think of much else. Didn't singers Anne Murray and Gordon Lightfoot come from Canada? I'm thinking they did. Once I'm done typing this, I'll go Google their names and find out for sure.

But I think I made my point. Not very much has ever come down from Canada. Looking at a globe, you can see that Canada has a whole lot of land. I'm sure that at least some of it is NOT encased in a mile-thick sheet of ice. I'm also sure they must have a road or two leading to Alaska for those Americans who don't want to have to fly or sail there.

It's kind of quaint imagining this virtually untouched mass of land sitting just to the north of the U.S.A. I would reckon that it's only a matter of time before we Americans start expanding into that area a little bit more with our Wal-Marts, our shopping centers and our Buffalo Wild Wings restaurant chain.

This too will pass. A Scottish saying I picked up while working there.

Dinna fash yer selves.

At the Ontario and Michigan border at the St Marys River, a fine old rain storm has hit. Both twin cities probably bailing out basements. Yes, hopefully the whole thing will go away, the Ford problem that is. (chuckle(.
