Shocking dashcam video shows the moment two cops open fire on a car being driven by a mom with CHILDREN in the back as she fled the scene after a heated altercation

A shocking dashcam video shows the moment a New Mexico state trooper opened fire on a minivan with five children inside after a route traffic stop went horribly wrong. Now the New Mexico State Police have opened an investigation into the conduct of the troopers - and driver Rihanna Ferrell and her 14-year-old son are facing charges. The traffic stop took place south of Taos, New Mexico, on October 28 - but it has sparked local outrage after the video from a state police dashcam went public. SCROLL DOWN FOR VIDEO

Footage shows the officer casually walk up to the vehicle and begin speaking with the driver. When the officer walks away, presumably to run the license and registration and decide whether to write a ticket, the van takes off. A short chase ensues before the driver again relents and the van makes its way to the side of the road.

The officer at this point has had enough. He storms up to and opens the driver’s side door while ordering the driver out of the vehicle. She refuses and a struggle ensues as children inside the Ford can be heard screaming. The driver’s son, 14, according to ABC News, gets out of the van but thinks better of the idea as the cop pulls a Taser on him.

None of this would happened if the mother - who is clearly an idiot - had not taken off after first being pulled over. She would have gotten a ticket or a warning only.

Not only is it the mother's fault, with the cops completely blameless, but we really need to issue RPG's to all cops, so they can blow any fleeing vehicle up! Nothing is more important than the cop going home safely!!1! We need to have them blowing up vehicles filled with children from a distance!!111!11! After all, WHO SAYS THE CHILDREN WERE BLAMELESS!! THEY PROBABLY LIED AND STOLE ANDF WOULD HAVE FGROWN UP TOB EHORRILBLE CRIMQAIhnALS!1!1q1!!11!! SUMMARY EXCEIECTUTONS!!! KILL!LL!LL JKILL~!LL!LL KILL!LLL!LLLLLL

Calm down. Read my other comments and you’ll realize I believe the police were wrong to fire on the van.

Unless they found a warrant on the driver that said she was an armed felon or a danger to others — running away from the police is not a capital offense. At least, it did not used to be. Nowadays, any lack of deference to cops seems to invoke the death penalty.

I know. That’s why I went on to say the police were wrong to shoot at the van.

there were parts "missing" I think in the released video....it didn't seem to have a natural flow to it....

but just of what we saw, the cops are out of control....

the cops KNOW that anybody being pulled over is a nervous wreck, and its time to approach gingerly and speak gingerly....explain everything....

they had another cop car there....why didn't they just pull infront of it rather than at kiddiecorner....

all these cops and there could have been tragic deaths for their stupidity...

The lady was from Tennessee and said she was taking her family on an “educational trip.” Her problem began when she showed “attitude” to Hispanic NM State Police officers outside of Taos. Bad combination since the bad guys have been regularly shooting at the NM cops the past couple of weeks.

Comply or die!! Obviously, the cop was shooting at her tires.

The Mother needs to loose her license for life(as if that would stop her from being an idiot) and the young man who exited the vehicle and ENGAGED officers needs incarceration for escalating the stop.

These friggin’ morons just decide to give the cops the middle finger and resist for any reason they want.

The kid is lucky he didnt get shot when he came out of the car.

You hit the nail on the head, on both points.

With out-of-state plates she was ordered to pay
the ticket right then.

The highway in Talpa is not an Interstate
but a narrow winding mountainous road.

Would you be blaming the victim if the perp wasn’t a government employee?

And you also cast blame on the mother for the same crime.

What do you think would have happened to a non-government employee who decided to fire on a van full of kids?

There’s a law in New Mexico against this:

New Mexico § 30-3-8. Shooting at Dwelling or Occupied Building; Shooting at or From a Motor Vehicle

B. Shooting at or from a motor vehicle consists of willfully discharging a firearm at or from a motor vehicle with reckless disregard for the person of another. Whoever commits shooting at or from a motor vehicle that does not result in great bodily harm to another person is guilty of a fourth degree felony. Whoever commits shooting at or from a motor vehicle that results in injury to another person is guilty of a third degree felony. Whoever commits shooting at or from a motor vehicle that results in great bodily harm to another person is guilty of a second degree felony.

Oh, right. Some Animals are more equal than others.

C. This section shall not apply to a law enforcement officer discharging a firearm in the lawful performance of his duties.

“And you also cast blame on the mother for the same crime.”

No, I blame her for her crimes - no one else’s. I also blame her for the unnecessary danger she put her family in. She is a danger to her mother. Drugs - either belonging to her or her son - were also found in the car.

“What do you think would have happened to a non-government employee who decided to fire on a van full of kids?”

I think they would have been charged. These officers might be as well. Either way the mother should be charged for her reckless endangerment of her children.
