FOR 50 years, Dallas has done its best to avoid coming to terms with the one event that made it famous: the assassination of John F. Kennedy on Nov. 22, 1963. Thats because, for the self-styled Big D, grappling with the assassination means reckoning with its own legacy as the city of hate, the city that willed the death of the president.
It will miss yet another opportunity this year. On Nov. 22 the city, anticipating an international spotlight, will host an official commemoration ceremony. Dallas being Dallas, it will be quite the show: a jet flyover, a performance from the Naval Academy Mens Glee Club and remarks from the historian David McCullough on Kennedys legacy.
But once again, spectacle is likely to trump substance: not one word will be said at this event about what exactly the city was in 1963, when the president arrived in what he called, just moments before his death, nut country.

It's been said that history is written by the winners. If that's the case, liberals have emerged victorious, because they're certainly rewriting history in ways that please them, without even bothering to change the facts to suit their narrative. What this guy is doing is the equivalent of pointing to a cat and calling it a dog. And this drivel is being published in *the* major national newspaper - an institution so prestigious that major financial mismanagement couldn't sink it, in an era where all of the other major newspapers in the country have been sold to outside investors.
Bad things happen.
Let's blame the people who had nothing to do with them when they do.
There's no power in blaming the guilty, because there are so few of them.
Blaming Dallas for the JFK assassination would be like blaming NYC for 9-11.
Of course, The NY Times likes to blame guns for murders.
“It’s Bush’s Fault”
“It’s Bush’s Fault”
Blaming Dallas for the JFK assassination is like blaming the Theater for Lincoln’s assassination.
Even a cursory watch of the old films indicates that, although there were some protesters, the majority of the people in attendance were enjoying the encounter with the president, and wept with stunned horror at what unfolded before their eyes.
killed JFK, a philandering nogoodnik who was elevated to sainthood after being bumped off.
...not so sure the above adequately describes JFK, although however we depict him, the ‘philandering’ label needs to stick...might as well throw in painkiller addict (I mean, if Rush is pilloried for it, why shouldn’t JFK)who also practiced nepotism to the nth degree...he had no more business being president than Obama, or GWB, or Jimmy Carter, or Harding or Millard Fillmore...now let’s move on to his negative points...
...seriously, compared to today’s Democrat standards, he was a neolithic knuckledragger...guess we should be thankful for small favors...
NY has penis envy.
Hmm. I smell horse manure. Two presidents were shot in Washington, D.C. Never heard anybody call the place “nut country.” And, it hasn’t “come to grips” with those shootings either.
The ignorance of the left knows no bounds. JFK was a piece of garbage whose daddy stole the election which made him president, a drug addict, a serial philanderer, and a venereal disease infected reprobate at best. No wonder the left idolized him. Blaming Dallas for his death is complete idiocy. And I am no big fan of Dallas. Everything north of Waco is Yankee land if you ask me.
listen to this......
Having grown up in and around the DFW area, I can tell you that the Democrats started pushing this narrative the day after the assassination!
If they had allowed the truth be known (that a lone, COMMUNIST, nut-job named Lee Harvey Oswald, killed JFK), then they would not be able so fully embrace their communist buddies and policies of today with such abandonment!
So, they started talking about the “nut country,” which is any square inch south of the Mason-Dixon (yes, THEY (the North) are the ones with an on-going hangup about the Civil War)! In the 1960’s, they wrote the same thing about New Orleans (and mentioned that Oswald was down there) and they always mention or say that then it got “worse” once Oswald got to Dallas.
They completely ignore and downplay the fact that Oswald DEFECTED to COMMUNIST Russia. They give it a cursory mention, but then they go back to how the South, and Dallas in particular, allowed this to happen.
This author, and most like him, have no clue what the truth looks like - EVER! Because they avoid it at all cost!
Since when is Dallas a “City of Hate”? I think New York City is a better example of a city of hate, since the people there hate anyone who isn’t them.
What about the Texas Book Depository building? huh!?. .huh?!! .Don’t stand there trying to look so innocent, BOOK DEPOSITORY BUILDING!!!
Dallas - where they shoot Presidents and people who shoot Presidents!
I remember when Kennedy was shot. The MSM seemed to place a collective “curse” on Dallas and could not mention Dallas without mentioning the killing.
In 1981, when Reagan was shot, ABC News, in a near panic, mentioned that Hinckley had bought his piston in Dallas. Newscaster Frank Reynolds, threw his hands in the air and yelled, “AGGH! DALLAS!”
3 presidents shot in Washington, DC:
Lincoln
Garfield
Reagan
Well, there you have it. Washington, D.C. The true “City of Hate” in the middle of “nut country.”
Watching the CBS coverage of the assassination, note how many times the attack on Adlai Stevenson in Dallas a few weeks earlier was mentioned.....They just *knew* the assassination had to be the work of Right Wingers.
