An Atlas 5 rocket is geared up to launch Monday with NASA's first mission dedicated to studying the Martian atmosphere, aiming to solve the puzzle of how Mars dried up and lost its life-supporting atmosphere eons ago. Liftoff of the MAVEN spacecraft from Cape Canaveral is set for 1:28 p.m. EST (1828 GMT), kicking off a 10-month cruise to the red planet.

I’d rather have welfare for space exploration that pushes the boundaries of knowledge than welfare for the hood.

Did they send Sheila Jackson-Lee (D) TX., on the mission to find the flag the astronauts put there years ago??

I’m for the space program, but how bout these dollars being spent on the next generation shuttle.

We are hitching rides with the Russians...what an embarrassment.

These would be dollars well spent. Studying Martian non-atmosphere seems kinda of pointless.

I agree, however missions like this one are a waste of limited resources.

I'd rather they send probes to Europa, Calisto, Titan, Triton, etc or build a replacement shuttle.

Mars once had water and an atmosphere but now it's a dead rusted rock, uummmmmm OK, we got it already. Enough.
