Not a time for politics. Unbelievably tragic.

Even worse if the father did indeed have to shoot his own son. Prayers to the Deeds family. I hope he recovers.

Even in this situation, you could still say that having a gun saved the father. Even if he was not the one that used it. call that a win for the pro-gun side!

I recall Deeds well from my long residency in VA. It was difficult to watch a good state die from the inside.

Since everyone is in a praying mood, I offer Psalm 109.

Fot the most part it looks like it has already been answered.

Mr. Deeds Goes to Town.
Good movie. Gary Cooper, Jean Arthur. 1936.
Story about a guy who gives someone else’s money away.

That doesn’t make sense, why would one be stabbed and the other shot?

This is a real shame. Creigh Deeds, while I disagree with some of his politics, is one of the sane ones. Prayers up.

What an absolutely hideous situation. Praying for the family.

http://www.roanoke.com/news/2389287-12/state-police-creigh-deeds-stabbed-numerous-times-son.html

Deeds was stabbed “numerous times about the head and upper torso,” state police spokeswoman Corinne Geller said during a news conference at Virginia State Police headquarters in Albemarle County today.

Gus Deeds, 24, died inside the home from a gunshot, which another law enforcement officer said was an “apparent” self-inflicted wound.

The senator’s son was evaluated under an emergency custody order by mental health professionals on Monday and released, Dennis Cropper, executive director of the Rockbridge County Community Services Board, told the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

The emergency custody order allowed Austin C. “Gus” Deeds to be held as long as four hours to determine whether he should be held longer, up to 48 hours, under a temporary detention order, Cropper said. The son was evaluated at Bath Community Hospital. An emergency custody order can be released by any magistrate.

Cropper said no psychiatric bed could be located across a wide area of western Virginia and the son was released.

As usual the media is speculating, guessing, and making stuff up. It may be two or three days before the public finds out what really happened.

hopefully they learn what really happened.

could be a family argument.

could be someone else went after the senator quietly and the son wound up coming in.

we’ll probably know soon enough.

Deceptive (deliberately I believe) headline. Should read “Sen Deeds stabbed to death by son who then commits suicide”

The son seems to have had a history of mental problems. Maybe the dad decided to have him committed to a sanitarium. Beyond that, I don’t konw anything about the Deeds family.
