A week after union Machinists at Boeing rejected a contract that would have guaranteed the 777X be built in Washington, the aerospace giant has talked to at least a half-dozen states about the future plane.
Officials in Alabama, California, Kansas, South Carolina and Utah said Tuesday their states have talked with the company about a new airplane-assembly plant, while a spokesman for Gov. Jay Inslee said Washingtons efforts have never stopped.
Georgia and Texas have also expressed interest, but officials there would not say whether theyve actually spoken with Boeing executives.
The conversations, a mix of phone calls and in-person meetings, some initiated by Boeing and others by state economic-development offices, were described as preliminary.
Boeing spokesman Doug Alder declined to discuss specifics but reiterated that the company is exploring all options for where to build the bigger, more fuel-efficient version of the 777 widebody jet.
CEO Jim McNerney said at the Dubai Air Show this week that he expects a decision within three months a time frame that is forcing states to move aggressively.
Officials in several states expressed confidence about their chances.

Build it right next to Kelly AFB.
I don't have the specifics anymore, but it was very long time, if ever. There were very few, other than top management, who came out of it without a long term loss.
They should build it in New Mexico.
The state has been aggressive in trying to attract manufacturing. There is a lot of military and civilian aerospace activity in New Mexico. Great weather. Lots of wide open spaces for aircraft testing.
At the end of the day I think Boeing is going to use this to milk all they can from the state and get what they can from the union and build the 777x in Washington. Moving would cost billions and take years, and that may set back deliveries and cost orders.
Wrong. Boeing moved its Corporate Offices from WA to Chicago BECAUSE the then CEO Harry Stonecipher did not want to spend four hours each way on the corporate jet visiting his daughter who lived in the city. Harry got the Boeing Board of Directors to OK the move and it was done. Boeing did NOT move its manufacturing activities to IL (and still haven’t). Harry was later forced to resign as CEO of Boeing for playing horizontal mambo with a married female senior VP. She was fired and divorced by her husband. Harry’s wife divorced him and hot 50% of his Boeing pension and perks. I know this is a fact because I suffered under Harry as a boss.
I thought they moved to North Carolina after the last union vote and the unions are suing them.
A few thousand people would have disputed that 9/11/01. But I digress...
the reasons in the dallas papers ranged from family to his love of boats. Nobody was sad to see him dethroned.
With the space shuttle program canceled . . . Alabama is primed for some rocket engineers to work for Boeing. We already have a nice Boeing facility here in Rocket City, lots of land for a factory. :)
Come on down, the Right To Work States Are Open for Business~!!!
“They should build it in New Mexico.”
You don’t mean the state where the cops stop people for traffic violations, then drag them off to a hospital for a colonoscopy to see of they are hiding any illegal drugs up their a$$? You don’t mean that state do you? They don’t call it “New” Mexico for nothing! Then again, when those guys who just got the involuntary colonoscopies, finish their lawsuits, they will own a county or two, so maybe then they can deal directly with Boeing.
You can add Hurt (?) at HP with his “closer” women - the marketing gals that service CEO for the corp accounts...not a LOL a sad truth. Does anyone think that all those trophy wives are interested in charity or lavish life.
Didn’t the CEO decide on Chicago because that is where his Mama lived?
I was told that by another ...look at the full post for the answer
I will grant you that New Mexico cops have been...unhinged as of late.
Albuquerque has a pretty high ratio of police shootings and off in the less populated parts of the state law enforcement is a prime source of municipal revenue. Here in Rio Rancho we have a great police department (underpaid, but great) and a very low crime rate. Really would be a good place to build the plant.
Thanks for posting that. Whenever I think it’s absolutely horrid here in MD, at least as far as liberalism goes, I do sometimes comfort myself with the thought, “At least I’m not in Washington”.
My pleasure...I think. At least I know how you feel.
