Senate Dems weaken GOP power with major filibuster rule change

Senate Democrats bowled over Republicans on Thursday to win approval for a highly controversial rule change which would limit the GOP's ability to block nominees.

Majority Leader Harry Reid, moving quickly following days of speculation, used the so-called "nuclear option" to pass the change. Typically, major changes like this take 67 votes, but he did it with just a simple majority.

With Republicans fuming, the change weakens the power of the minority to stall nominations for top positions. Instead of needing 60 votes to break a filibuster, the change means Democrats will now need just 51.

One party rule is just another way of saying tyranny. Perhaps the minority party should borrow a bit from the RAT playbook and refuse to attend and go into hiding so that a quorum can’t be had. Make the RATs chase em down and drag them in cuffed and protesting.

They do not care what you think, whatever gives anyone at this stage ANY confidence in the republicans in the House, or the Senate to fight for this country anymore...

Try calling their office(s) and find out how quickly they hang up on you, if your into that...

Y’all do realize they will push as many judges, and bills through the process now before November 2014...And there will not be a lot anyone can do about it...

I’m really surprised they took so long to pull this particular procedural/political trigger...

The RATS have convinced themselves they are in control of USA forever. The RATS will never have to worry about what would happen if they were the minority in the Senate.

The government is breaking down. The Senate is controlled by power-mad Democrats, unconstrained by rules. The House is ostensibly in Republican control, but they are disorganized and led by Quislings. The Executive is unconstrained by law, ignoring laws it does not like and issuing decrees as if they were law. The Judiciary has outdone themselves, contorting Congressional Acts - nay, modifying them - to declare them Constitutional.

Perhaps Maj. Gen. Vallely is correct.

They are deeply embedded. Although largely Democrat, they are not confined to the Democrat party. They are going for it all. Nothing will stand it their way. They are close to victory and can taste it.

All while we slept.

They want chaos. Chaos can be exploited. Why do you think they’ve bought up so much ammo?

A better question is when will we learn what we are up against?

We are up against all of them, and this is going to continue until we stop it.

Wow that’s pretty shocking even to me, and I’ve become quite cynical these days.

There truly isn’t any upside to this if what you wrote is true. I don’t doubt that it can be; it’s just so shocking that I wouldn’t believe it could happen. Or don’t want to.

But whatever. Why not. And of course, the Reluvlicans won’t have enough courage to do the same if they ever get back in power.

Importantly, the Republics *must* embrace and accept this rule change once they are in power, as it will likely result in the inability of Democrats to block conservative justices to the Supreme Court.

With there likely to be a Republican senate and a Republican POTUS, as many as three or even four seats on the SCOTUS could go to strongly conservative justices.

This will be essential if the Republicans hope to dismantle much of the last hundred years of progressivism. A 7-2 conservative SCOTUS would be a huge help to doing this.

Dems will just change rules again before the Senate switches and then cry like stuffed pigs if the republicans try the same thing.
***Yup, you called it.

Timing is everything. It's all, likely, going according to plan :(

Well, the two concepts are not mutually exclusive….but how would you suggest we “stop it.”

Reid and his ilk will soooooooo regret this.

They would if there was an opposition party. The GOP should have walked out. Now they think they'll be able to do the same thing when it is their turn. Democrats don't play like that. You will see such hell raised if/when the tables turn and people like McCain and Collins will cave, as always.

I seem to remember people whining about this a few years back. They wailed that if the Republicans did it then the demonrats would and it would be all our fault.

The whiners won.

And now the demonrats are doing it.

See where being "nice" and "fair" gets you?

DING ! DING ! DING ! We have a winner.

Furthermore, what makes any of these people think there will be another Republican president nominating anyone. I think the left has put enough perpetual entitlements in place and has enough people on food stamps, Medicaid, disability, etc.. that we will never see another Republican president. They have taken over the IRS, NSA, military, etc... so that they have the infrastructure in place to "manage" any close election to their benefit. People need to come to grips with the fact that Obama has achieved his goal of fundamentally changing our country.

It is over.
