Knock yourselves out, guys. Guess you don’t want to be an INCLUSIVE party.

Seriously, the answer isn’t for the Tea Party to back off this fight. Take them on and defeat them.

In Florida, the Tea Party got so strong that that little weasel Charlie Crist ran away.

We don’t win every battle, but we DO win. This effort for crony capitalism and the Rockefeller wing needs to be engaged.

Reagan beat them back, and we can do the same.

The path to getting a general election candidate who can win is the only thing we care about.”

Yep, so long as it's their boy. Others need not apply. Support will be withheld and then the "I told you so" crowd will come out.

“The path to getting a general election candidate who can win is the only thing we care about.”

Culture, principles, morality, values, and liberty mean nothing if winning is the only thing.

The problem with that little scheme as I see it is that the Tea Party isn’t a group where you can catch them all in a building, lock them inside while the voting happens, and the issue goes away. They are individual, highly motivated voters that are sick to death of things the way they are. You are essentially talking about trying to destroy ants as a species, for want of a better comparison. That’s not going to happen easily, if at all.

Unfortunately, that seems to be the case. What passes for "conservative" in some parts of the country would run to the left of the liberals in other parts. That is what happens when values are graded on a curve.

Wyatt Durrette, who is part of this group, has not voted republican in decades. He admitted he voted for Al Gore over Bush.

Why should conservatives take advice from democrats?

The RINO Establishment has been given plenty of opportunity to get a general election candidate who can win, but hasn’t. If they’re just going to be “Democrat Lite”; then THEY are the ones who need to get out of the way. Governor Palin was the only reason I could hold my nose and vote McCain in 2008.

Yes, let’s keep posting articles like this from liberal sources so we can have our daily intramural m-st-rb-tion of self flagellation…..this kind of crap has been going on since before Reagan…..and place like THE HILL and The Politico and The AP and the NYT run these pieces simply to get us all lathered up….and to distract from Obama Care etc….and FReepers take it hook, line, sinker, boat, marina, shoreline, every damned time.

Yes, this is going on. Deal with it….don’t play the media’s game….

Highly motivated individuals will only take a movement so far. Organization and leadership are necessary for the long haul.

“The path to getting a general election candidate who can win is the only thing we care about.”

Worked great in ‘96, ‘08, and ‘12 didn’t it?

Actually though the problem we had in at least the last 2 was that we had one moderate and multiple conservatives. The establishment all voted for the moderate and we split our votes. We need to do it the other way around next time, even if we have to find and fund a second moderate to run.

I agree.

The Republican Party has squandered the chance to give Americans a definitive choice, and has instead reasoned that they might win by being less of what their opponent is instead of something different. The reasoning, by virtue of the results, has disgusted the base and failed to energize new voters, some of whom are turning (in desperation) to third parties.

The problem is that these stories are the truth, no matter who’s publsihing them. The GOP-E is trying to stamp out the TEA Party movement, and Rove and company would rather lose elections than win with Conservative candidates. That is unacceptable, and I’ll be damned if I support the GOP-e because of its blatant backstabbing..

I agree with you. Every time I see one of these divisive articles I can guess which sources are behind it.
None of these tell us anything we don’t already know, but the idea is to keep the wound festering.

TP of VA brought this upon themselves when they voted for a Convention to select a candidate vs primary. In essence it was a power grab that insured TP backed candidate will be selected vs risking not thru a normal primary. This has ticked off not only establishment GOP but also moderate GOP members. Tea Party need to learn from this, if we are strong and have the support of the people we do not need to stoop to Parliamentary manueuvers to win. It also sets off very bad feelings. GOP of VA will have to work these hard feelings off before unity is re established. Problem with setting off party civil war, is the Dems will take advantage of it.

No, the point is NO DUH!!!! We get it. This is nothing but mental m-st-rbation for comments to come and daily prove they hate the estab more than any other poster…I wrote a damned entire book about it, Rove insulted me to my face over it in fact - so I'll put my anti estab cred up against any Freeper in history….but I still say these threads are idiotic.

People have to be informed if they are going to be able to effectively fight back. Sticking your head in the sand is not an effective strategy.

...it’s unfortunate that the sobriquet ‘Tea Party’ arose from these people’s efforts, because that, as an identifier, valid or not, enables demonization and lampooning by the opposition...any collective term can be appropriated and used as derogation in any cultural enterprise, most obviously in politics...the price of organization, so to speak...

...a loose confederation of those committed to limited government, I understand, doesn’t have the punch of the ‘Tea Party’, but it does at least have the cover of anonymity...
