Sen. Mary Landrieu will buy health coverage in Louisiana and lose out on federal subsidy
WASHINGTON -- Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-La., said Friday that she and her husband will buy their health insurance from Louisiana's Affordable Care Act marketplace.
That decision means she won't qualify for the federal contribution provided to federal employees, including members of Congress and their staffs. It can be as high as $11,377 for a family health plan.
Members of Congress and their staffs must buy insurance through Washington D.C.'s small business exchange to qualify for continued federal health subsidies, under a recent directive from the Office of Personnel Management.
After reviewing their options, Landrieu said she and her husband, Frank Snellings, decided to bypass the D.C. exchange and sign up with the Louisiana exchange for themselves and their two children.
"We are pleased about the number of choices we have to choose from, the value this coverage will provide and that this is coverage our family can count on when we need it," Landrieu said. "In the coming weeks and months ahead, I will continue my efforts to fix and strengthen the Affordable Care Act so that every working person and middle class family in Louisiana and across the country can have affordable, quality insurance that they can never lose."
The New Orleans exchange that Landrieu and her family are using has 41 insurance options, according to the senator's staff.

Yes, and after she is reelected she will drop the policy and go with the taxpayer-subsidized and infinitely better plan the political elite scum created for itself.

Just what does her buying an Obamacare policy accomplish?
Does she think that somehow helps the people who lost their old healthcare plans and those who have to pay much more for an ObamaCare plan that is worse than what they lost?

—because while she was sooo nice to choose the crappy plan everyone else has, she has no intention of either giving up her ability to choose or make it a matter of choice for everyone.
So is her premium now lower? Or is she demonstrating that the rich can afford Obamacare policies? Maybe she’s rubbing it in?

People of this nature simply make every decision through the lens of a political calculation. To them the right thing to do is whatever works politically, not based on any traditional moral code. Most of our elected officials are the same way. Belaboring the obvious here on FR, I know.
I’m sorry , but I disagree. Yes Mary Landrieu voted for Obamacare, but now she has changed her mind. The low information voter from N. Orleans will vote for her as she busses them to the polls!
Until after the election.
Then, she will drop that state plan and return to the plan Congress uses.
I am sure she is happy that her birth control and abortions will now be taxpayer subsidized.
