In Newtown Shooting, No Answers To 'Why?' [Report Summary Released]
The Hartford Courant ^ | November 25, 2013 | Jenny Wilson and others

Adam Lanza acted alone in planning and carrying out the massacre of 20 first-graders and six adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School last December, but an 11-month investigation could not determine a motive in the second-deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history.

Danbury State's Attorney Stephen J. Sedensky III closed the investigation Monday by announcing there would be no criminal charges filed in the case and releasing a 44-page report that portrayed Lanza as an isolated, socially inept 20-year-old with a fascination for a dance video game and mass killers that seems to have been developed as far back as the fifth grade.

Sedensky also released a detailed timeline of the events on the morning of Dec. 14 that shows Newtown police officers were outside the school for more than five minutes before entering. He concluded that police believed there might have been more than one shooter and "acted accordingly."

The report concludes that the 20-year-old Adam Lanza acted alone when he fatally shot his mother at their home in Newtown and then went to the elementary school where he fatally shot 20 first-grade pupils and six adults and wounded two other adults.

“The purpose of the investigation was to determine what crimes had been committed and whether anyone will be prosecuted as a result of those crimes. Based on a painstaking investigation it is determined that there will be no arrests or prosecutions. The Connecticut State Police are to be commended for their tireless work on this investigation and their consideration of the families and victims involved,” State’s Attorney Sedensky said.

“With the release of this report today the investigation is closed, and no additional release of information or documents by this office is anticipated,” State’s Attorney Sedensky said.

A copy of the report was provided to Governor Dannel P. Malloy.

The extensive Connecticut State Police case report, which numbers several thousand pages on this tragic case, is completed. The process of redaction is underway: that is, any information contained in the report that is required by law to be redacted must be removed prior to the release of the document. The process will be completed as quickly as possible. The State Police are expecting to complete the redaction process before the anniversary of this tragedy.

The State Police will post online an announcement when the case report is available and how it may be obtained.

11 months to state the obvious. Another insane idiot kills innocence in a random act of violence.

Could have saved a lot of money on that one.

Thousands of man-hours spent...and the best we can say...is that some kid at age fourteen should have been put into a secure mental facility for the rest of his life. For the safety of the many, we should have reacted to the circumstances of the one.

Right now, there are probably 300,000 Americans who ought to be in a secure mental facility. But we won’t dare say that in public.

The state police are still redacting their *full* report....not that there will be anything in it to learn.

I didn't know the mom wasn't *allowed* in his room. They communicated by email.

Black plastic bags over his windows.

Maybe mom was a loon too?

I noted that each and every report on this story now calls Lanza a “man” last year he was “just a BOY...”

Yes, noticed that too.

Also State Attorney mentions Lanza’s name once in the report....other wise IDs him as the *shooter*. Meh.

Coming with No Reason Why makes it easier for the GunControlNazis to take everyone’s weapons. A specific reason means they can only ban weapons from a few specific people

I would imagine that there were plenty of answers as to why. But those answers probably pointed in a direction that made some powers-that-be uncomfortable.

I doubt that's Lanza's room.....other than a clean carpet, a sparsely made bed and some pieces of furniture, there's nothing there.

And those aren't windows.........

"Right now, there are probably 300,000 Americans who ought to be in a secure mental facility. But we won’t dare say that in public."

I can tell you from professional experience that if the American public had any idea of what walks loose among them free as a cockroach, and brushes past their children on the street every day, attitudes towards crime and punishment would change overnight, and nobody, NOBODY would be talking about "gun control."

The only mention of “dad” in the article was that the son had nothing to do with his father or brother, and they apparently didn’t live together. Sounds like a sad situation.

Aside from being murdered herself, I would guess that the mother was a long term victim of having to take care of the murderer herself. Will check the report to see if they discuss that aspect.

How is this for a movie plot: An administration so anti-gun that they would do ANYTHING to make them illegal, even comb thru the CDC’s records in Atlanta for mentally unstable and heavily medicated patients across the country that have both violent tendencies and have checked the questionnaire box declaring that they have easy access to guns. Periodically picking one or two of them, messing with their meds so the violence tendency is enhanced, butter some popcorn and wait. If nothing happens, no loss, try again. If they go postal, be ready with the anti-gun propaganda and legislation. If some kids get hurt, well, it is all for The Cause..The shooter, alive or dead becomes federal property so there will be no negative toxicology reports. No lose situations for pennies..

Crazy people do not need a motive. They will make one up in their minds.
